The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks. She has fantastic tutorials on river rock painting, and I started painting on rocks several years ago after purchasing my first book written and created by her. I have been painting on river rocks since then, and I am so happy! I so love this wonderful pastime I have, which has been a great outlet for me. And, I've given many painted rocks away as gifts over the years, and I even sold one or two, as well !!

I'm a huge fan of Lin Wellford and have bought most of her books. I must have mis-read or misunderstood that this book was just three of her existing books bound together (Zoo Animals, Pets, and For Kids), not a new book with new projects. In any case, the books are wonderful and well-worth the money. Wellford's step-by-step instructions are clear, concise, and littered with descriptive pictures.

For your enjoyment is this craft book titled The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks. This one is rated a B with some wear. ISBN : 0-89134-572-8 Of Pages: 117 Color Pictures: Yes Hard or Soft Cover: Soft.

I had never painted a rock but was looking for a new hobby. Followed her step by step instructions and hey! She makes it easy and fun.

Absolutely love this book! Lin Wellford is the best at giving any beginning rock painter the pictures, instructions, and tips needed to be successful. I found a new hobby that I totally love, thanks to this author. She is also right when she says the search for rocks is part of the fun. It is like a treasure hunt! You will not find a better book to use learning to paint rocks. I highly recommend it.

Simply wonderful! This book was very informative for the first time rock artist. Even though one may have expertise in other areas of painting, the direction and precise information outlined to create furry critter rock creations is perfect, weather you are a skilled artist or a beginner.

I have all of the author's books on the subject and this one is as terrific as each of the others. Instructions are easy to follow and, with patience and perseverance, I can get a great result. Books are packed with hints, good diagrams, and how-tos. Recommend highly.

I have a nostalgia for this book: I first picked it up in a library in the 90's and got so excited about rock painting that our front entry was greeted by a variety of small pebble animals. I wasn't much of an artist then, and it showed, but I was still very proud of my creations and my parents still keep the little rocks as key-hiding stones in their front yard. (Shh! Don't tell them I let you know where their key is hidden!)

In any case, when I stumbled across this book nearly a decade later, I absolutely had to have my own copy. Thankfully, the book was popular enough (and it should be, it's a great book) that finding used copies is quite easy. I was also delighted to know that there are several sequels to these books with new ideas and great photos.

In any case, you're probably wondering why I'm writing more about me than the book, so... back on topic.

This book (as well as Lin Wellford's other "Painting <XYZ> on Rocks") is the master of its genre, all other books I've seen have been small in detail, depth, and variety in comparison to this one. While it does follow the standard "Step 1...", "Step 2..." style of direction, i.e. learning by direct imitation, Lin Wellford also goes into variations and shows pictoral samples of alternate versions of her works. In fact, you could probably buy just one of her books and have all the knowledge necessary to create an indefinite amount of other animals and objects on rocks as long as you had the inspiration. For those of us who like to imitate some (all) of the time, directly following her step-by-step instructions is great, particularly considering how many different types of animals are included.

In "Painting Animals on Rocks", there are step by step instructions listed for:
- Ladybug
- Snake
- Turtle
- Rabbit
- Cat/Kitten (Calico)
- Cat (Persian)
- Cat (Tabby)
- Raccoon
- Deer Fawn
- Fox
- Owl

There is also a brief photo-gallery at the back of the book which includes double-animal rocks, as well as a general rock painting instruction in the front that is quite comprehensive (even to the point of suggesting the type of outdoor craft acrylics, paintbrushes, and suggested tools (either homemade or purchased). I've found the instructional section to be better in some of Lin Wellford's more recent books, so if you're looking for a single rock painting book and you're not picky on patterns, it might be better to try one of her books that was published after this one.

You do have to have a bit of talent to paint these adorable critters on rocks - you do have to go find the suitable rocks and you do have to have someone carry those rocks that you picked out and couldn't decide on which ones would "work"-- but all in all a really nice book. clear instructions- Oh yeah- now you have to figure out what to do with them--- well- you can sell them! As decorations. as paperweights, (does anyone still use paperweights?) Well- just figure it out!

This book is so beautifully written and the instructions so wonderfully detailed that I feel I can actually do this! What an incredible find! My thanks to the author!!
I have no natural artistic talent, except for coloring inside the lines. This book, however, changed that. Lin Wellford's instructions are clear, concise, and very easy to understand. Her step-by-step directions are fool-proof, even for someone like me who has never attempted painting, let alone a furry animal. The pages are loaded with pictures to help demonstrate the techniques discussed. It's also an easy read written in layman's terms. I've painted several bunnies, cats, fawns, racoons, lady bugs and snakes. Except for the snakes, everything I painted looked "real," not like cartoons. I get better with each new rock and have started to use some of the alternative variations that are briefly described for more advanced artists. Whether you're a beginner like me or a great painter already, I believe you'd enjoy every project. I would recommend this book to my friends.
