Joachim-Ernst Berendt (20 July 1922 in Berlin – 4 February 2000 in Hamburg) was a German music journalist, book author and producer specialized on jazz. Berendt's father Ernst Berendt was a Protestant pastor belonging to the Confessing Church and was imprisoned and died in the Dachau concentration camp. Berendt started studying Physics, but was interrupted by his enlistment to the Wehrmacht

Joachim-Ernst Berendt, a German writer who was best known as a jazz critic but who was also a radio and concert producer and the author of books on nature and acoustical phenomena, died Feb. 4 in Hamburg, Germany. He was 77. He died a day after he was struck by a car, The Associated Press reported. The Independent Publishers Group, his American distributor, said the book sold almost two million copies worldwide.
