Marios Chirtou and Mark Riley are London-based filmmakers with more than 20 years of experience in the broadcast TV industry. I finished the book and am surprised of the quality of the footage provided just for training purposes. For the price, it's a bargain.

What better way of learning by practicing ?

I finished the book and am surprised of the quality of the footage provided just for training purposes. For the price, it's a bargain.
Indeed it's almost impossible for non professionals to get access to this quality of footage.

I was not a total beginner in video editing but hadn't touched Final Cut Pro X before and I found myself in the perfect target audience.
This book is half on using FCPX, half on the art of editing. As a result it's a fast learning method but just a small introduction to the craft of the cut.

I prefer learning on a real book while practicing on the screen so that I don't have to switch applications on the screen.
Found a few mistakes while following rigorously each instructions but overall it was fairly easy to follow.

Editing my own version of the movie for the sequence left without detailed instructions and comparing my work to the provided final cut proved itself to be very useful.
It reads well and it's organized logically. The DVD promises to be a great asset but I haven't used it yet.
BUT it's as if it was made by Jekyll and Hyde. The photos are small and hopelessly dark; did anyone bother to proof this book before rolling production? And the font is too small and light.
I don't know why other posters have not complained about this too unless I got a copy from a bad run. If that's it I'd like to know so I can ask for a good one. Seriously, this is an issue for me and I think it will be for most who get a copy that looks like mine does.
This book is laid-out like a college course, which is what you need to rock and roll with Final Cut X. The DVD and book gives you hands-on, and a quick guide to editing anything short of a George Lucas film with billion dollar effects. Okay . . . maybe way short of that, but you could still do a feature film. Enjoy.
I would have given it 5 stars if it had been up-to-date with the latest version of FINAL CUT PRO. Otherwise, it's a fantastic tutorial. FCP has a very steep learning curve so this publication (with DVD) really made it possible to survive.
It's a great book. Very practical and lots of great tips. Using the files helps get a great understanding of FCPX.
The best beginner's "How to..." book I have ever used. I'm really enjoying my Final Cup Pro class. So much fun.
This review applies to the Kindle edition only. I was hesitant to order this edition since the price was almost the same price of the paperback edition. I rationalized that I could use it on one computer screen as I worked on Final Cut Pro on the other. After ordering the ebook it was clear a key component was a DVD that comes with the paperback but, of course, not with the ebook. How can you possibly charge such an exorbinate amount for an incomplete package? I've since requested a refund on the ebook and then plan to order the paperback. Buyer beware...
