Terence Henry Stamp (born July 22, 1938) is an English actor and writer who played Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Stamp, the eldest of five children, was born in Stepney, London, England, the son of Ethel Ester (née Perrott) and Thomas Stamp, who was a stoker on a Thames tug-boat. His early years were spent in the East End of London, but later in his childhood the family moved to Plaistow, Essex.

In this sequel to his autobiography "Stamp Album", the young Terence begins his acting career in the late 1950s. With the dedicated coaching of his new thespian friends and his Yugoslav trainer, Dragon, Stamp won a scholarship to the Webber Douglas Academy. He won his first professional role in "The Long and the Short and the Tall" where he met Michael Caine. They were soon sharing a mews flat and also the same suit for auditions which did not fit either of them. Then Stamp's big break came when Peter Ustinov cast him in the title role of his film "Billy Budd".

The man never blows his own horn during his description of how he rose to fame from east end working class people. He doesn't get too personal, he simply and eloquently tells his story in minute detail, what a memory, and the man describes the most interesting events which lead up his "overnight" success. While the writing is "simple," don't be fooled. The man is brilliant! A very quiet, thoughtful, and modest man comes through in his writing. I come away thinking how hard work, a little bit of luck, a lot of committment to follow one's dream, and a determined streak to stay focused can make anyone a winner. This is the story of an exceptional multi-talented modest man. It's an easy read and one that makes the book hard to put down. Read it in a night and wanted more so I've ordered The Night.
Loved loved loved it! Terence's memory is astounding. His ability to remember all of
those details of everyday post war Britain is remarkable and painted with such emotion
and colour. Easy reading one can devour.
