His heros John Weidner created an underground network as soon as 1940 and saved a thousand people (Allied pilots gunned down by the Nazis and Jews) without ever wearing a weapon. The great originality of the network Dutch-Paris is its high morale standards and its efficiency in making fugitives escape occupied France, Belgium and Netherlands towards Switzerland and Spain.

This is the story of John Henry Weidner and the Dutch-Paris underground. John's native country was Holland, but, by 1940 when the German's took over France he had already been living and working if France for several years. John was also brought up as a Seventh-day Adventist and his father was a clergyman. John was in the textile business and doing well, but when he saw the mass chaos brought in the wake of the Germans he felt he had to do something to help the suffering population, especially the Jews. Many of the Jews were already refugees from other countries also taken over by Germany. Now France turned it's back on the refugees too. John started out helping people in small ways, and almost always a legal way. Eventually, more and more underground people helped John, but, he was running out of legal ways to help people. After that, John and the underground helped people illegally. After reading this book, I admired John so much. He was arrested four times by the Gestapo, beaten and tortured, and once with a friend managed to escape prison. The other thing I particularly liked about the book was that John was a very devout Seventh-day Adventist whose religion was very much a part of him and his life. He came across as a real testament to his faith. I gave the book four stars only because there were so many characters involved in the book that it came across as a bit confusing. A very good read that I highly recommend.

A great book about an unusual heroe that deserves to be better known.

This is a book about the accounts of a generous and very brave Christian who thought not of himself in trying to save the lives of others through the underground during WWII. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat from page one! I will never forget the story of this courageous individual who relied on God to save the lives of others.

This was a wonderful, truthful story of those who rise above seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and through their faith and courage in One who strengthens and provides ways to overcome those obstacles, faith is re-affirmed and courage to move forward is given.

Well written and fast paced. The information on the torture was more detailed than I wanted to read about.
Very Old Chap
This is a straightforward story of a Dutchman operating in France whose organization rescued more Jews and others fleeing the Nazis than any other single group in WWII. His simple faith in God preserved his life several times and gave him the guts to stand up to the oppressor, the captor. He managed to keep his wits even when being beaten or tortured and managed to steer his captors into letting him go.

An excellent book about John Weidner. A man who helped as many, if not more, Jews and downed allied pilots that anyone in history.
Great experience. Thanks.
