This book gives a fascinating perspective on South Africa over five decades from the 50s. The very young George Bizos arrived in South Africa from Greece via Egypt as a refugee from the second world war, and became one of the world's top political trial/Public interest Law/Human Rights lawyers. As one of Nelson Mandela's lawyers and good friends, George had access and opportunities to be involved in change in South Africa which very few people had. The book's narrative is good to read and his many stories of legal events give good Insights even to non-lawyers. Even if you are not interested in South Africa, Apartheid and the changes that the country has been going through, the book is a rewarding story.

A very interesting viewpoint of apartheid from a lawyer who was in the thick of the battle. He stood up for those who experienced great injustice. Very well written and makes you feel like you are there.

An exeptional book, about the unknown South Afrika. My only problem with it is, that as I am not a lawyer, I didnt undestant everything perfectly.

Too often these days their pivotal role is forgotten or suppressed.
