I finally found this book at an affordable price, and its condition exceeded my expectations. So interesting to me, as Wm Jennings Bryan is in my family tree, and I could read how some of the family values and traits have passed down through generations.

This is an easy-to-read book. It was written not long after Bryan died. The book's tone is too positive to be a serious scholarly biography. It focuses on the positives and doesn't point out Bryan's flaws. There are some things you can glean from it though, such as Bryan's stances on issues and some pictures I don't recall seeing before. If you want to read an objective biography I would recommend Robert Cherny's A Righteous Cause or Paolo Coletta's three volume series.

I didn't buy this book. It's available for free online and that's where I read it. The book presents Bryan as a saint. While I admire his political stance, particularly suffrage for women, pacifism, and the direct election of senators, he did a great deal of damage through his anti-evolution campaign. Read the transcript here: [...], especially his big speech on Day 5. He does not come across well--vain, proudly ignorant. He was a progressive, but at least on this subject he sounds like the worst of the happily-uneducated tea baggers. This biography, however, is essentially a puff piece. It's interesting for being so contemporary, published the same year as Bryan's death. Read it is an historical piece, not as fact.
