It's in the five principles underlying hope that Hutson and Perry get very pragmatic, as they outline the importance of Possibility (seeing new futures, including new services and products), Agency (shared active engagement in creating the future), Worth (appealing to values that transcend financial goals), Openness (the courage to face the unexpected), and Connection (reaching for the future with others, staying grounded in reality).

In 2010 we are experiencing the downside of capitalism. The relentless push for greater efficiency stemming in part from competition ultimately leads to unemployment, UNLESS the rate of innovation in business and society creates new human endeavors. Widespread use of this book might well increase the level of innovation, as it wisely explains how to tap into human spirit and creativity.

If you have been turned off by other books on positive psychology, be assured that you will love this one. It was well-researched over a period of ten years. There is empirical data gathered carefully by the authors as well as relevant references to sages from Aristotle to Friedman. A true gem.
