This article focuses on the National Longitudinal Surveys of Youth, which provide comprehensive information about two cohorts of Americans. The older group, included in the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (NLSY79), consists of individuals born from 1957 to 1964 who were age 14 to 22 when first interviewed in 1979.
