Foster is co-author of Managing Supply Chain and Operations from Pearson. I got this book as required text for a graduate management class. It does have a lot of useful information, especially with statistic's graphing in Excel, but the book is just difficult to read.

Given that I am a Grad student, and this is a text book, this review is only going to cover my impressions based on the first 3 chapters of the book, since that's as far as we've gotten in the class. Amazon will have to send me another review request in 12 weeks if they want me to review the whole thing... consider this feedback, Amazon: don't assume anyone is going to read a textbook cover to cover like it's the latest NY Times best seller. If you want me to review the product, you have to give me time to use the product, and in this case that means the whole semester.

That said, it's not like a review of this book is going to sway a student from buying it; especially if they are required to buy the book for class. Instructors on the other hand, or even the publisher, may want to pay attention:

In the first 2 chapters alone, I discovered a section that was completely omitted. The chapter outlines the various perspectives of quality that will be discussed, including Information Systems quality, however the chapter never covers that topic. That's more than a typo. I was actually hoping to read something on that very topic, given I work in that field. Oh well. Hopefully this doesn't reflect the quality of the rest of the book.

That said, the content that is there is good. I have been a quality engineer for over 10 years now, and the strengths of this book aren't in the quality tools discussed, for those aren't new to the industry or me, but in the concepts and different ways of looking at quality. This is a unique way of presenting the topic of quality that I have not seen in any of my training or classes in the past decade.

Hopefully the publisher will notice the typos and omissions, and correct this as soon as possible - that would make this an even better book.

Love it, just what I was hoping for. I would buy it again in a heart beat. What else is there to say?

I rented a textbook from the company at the beginning of the semester, after I received it ,I found the book was not a new book dirty on the cover page and damaged binding. I used the book very carefully and kept it as the original the book dealer sent it to me, however after I returned it the company refused to accept is and the reason is "binding damaged" . furthermore, they forced charged me $200.42 from my account.

This is one of the few textbooks I do not plan on selling or getting rid of!!! There is an amazing amount of information in this book on differnt approaches to quality, history, origins, etc. Since I have a career in operations I plan on using this as a reference book for years to come.
The one drawback is that this book is very technical and not the most engaging read. That being said, if you are looking for a resource on quality, this is the book.
