Finally, a no padded BS riddled book questing for pages, rather one focused on delivering solid information on the reality of selling your company. Compared to others "how to sell" your company, this is readable, highly actionable and the book you want to ready the day you start your business. If you are nearing the end of the trail and looking to sell your business, read this three or five years before you plan to sell if you expect to get paid what you should for all your years of work.
Fail to read this book now might mean you won't even be able to sell your business tomorrow. No kidding, there is a flood of baby boomers starting to try to sell their company and it's getting to the point of being a glut of businesses to buy. If yours is not well prepared with all the attributes a buyer is seeking, you won't get a second look much less the return you deserve on your years of work.
If you have never sold a business before, you'll be in for a shock at just how much work that will entail. Read this book and make the process smooth, relatively painless and more importantly more certain. After all, you do want to sell your company for top dollar and do it quickly don't you?
Highly recommended.

The author lays out an excellent tactical understanding of the events behind selling your business. It's a must read book for anyone planning to sell a business and the experience of the author clearly shines through.

However, I think in trying to boil the material into '11' points, the author understates the psychological and emotional preparedness to selling a business. Business owners often make very erratic decisions during the time of the sale of their business, simply because they recoil against the often slippery and unsavory tactics of the persons that tend to be involved in the process. Also, there are 'corollary' events that often accompany a sale that can't simply be boiled into 11 points. Most notably, auction process and managing business brokers, to name a few. All in all, an excellent book, but be forewarned there are few simple axioms that will adequately prepare you for selling a business.

This is a great book, written for business owners. It is short, but it covers all of the important points for a business owner to consider. How to get your business in the best financial, physical and organized condition to present to a buyer. It also urges the business owner to consider life planning after the sale. You have spent so much time with your business, will you really be happy when you sell.

Written by a business broker, he covers all aspects of what can happen before, during and after a sale. Don't let the shortness of the book deter you. Dini covers just the right amount of detail for a business owner and how to market or select a business broker. You won't find pages and pages of financial details better handled by your accountant or by purchasing another book. Everything important is included in its 122 pages.

First of all: the author himself recommends his book!! this should have triggered the alarm but I was in a hurry. Compared to its price, this book is waaaaaaaay too expensive, because not only is it small, probably out of the whole book, there are only 4 pages which I found to hold good info, and because of those 4 pages, I gave it a 2 star. There is a book called How to Sell Your Business - And Get What You Want!: by Colin Gabriel, now thats a great book, although a bit old, but loads and loads of practical ready to use advice. I would not buy "11 things you absolutely need to know" again.

Would survive better as a PDF. Thin on substance, and thin on paper.

In my opinion, if you are a business owner who fails to learn these eleven things, you are guilty of entrepreneurial mal-practice. John Dini does an admirable job of showing you how to avoid that fate. Concise and well written in a language any business owner will understand, "11 Things" works through the key issues you need to learn before you hire your first advisor to guide you. By the way, you will have to hire someone to guide you; doing it all by yourself is a fast way to lose a lot time, money and business value.
Excellent, simple, practical and extremely valuable. The authors have described the "must know" of selling a business in a very practical form. The 11 things are in the category of "I should have known it" but many times (if not always) scape the attention of the business owner. I consider it an essential book if you are planning to sell your business now or in the next five years.
