The book covers all the territory (publ 2010) we needed. If you're considering buying a home that is in any way "tricky" -- a very old building, a confused title history, a lot of extra land, whatever -- I would still recommend getting some specialized advice. l This Idiot series has always served us well. In the most recent case, the purchase deal did not go through and we are relieved at the outcome.

Great book for home buying newbies to get the basics down. It's in your best interest to then seek detailed information on anything you're not sure about in this book since it is not super detailed, but does give a very good overview of the process.

A coworker recommended this book. He told me it was the best money he ever spent, the questions the book lead him to had the bank representatives he spoke to calling upper management for the answers. This book is easy to read and keeps you engaged. I highly recommend this book.

The IG on Building Your Own Home talked me out of building, and this book walked me through the buying process. Now, I won't say that the process isn't still confusing at times, but this book is a great resource & takes a lot of the unpleasant surprises out of the equation. We did buy a home last June, and this book helped immensely!

My extremely unsophisticated best friend (ie is 40 and has never had a driver's license, bank account, credit card, etc.) now wants to buy a house. I tried to explain, but too much info. I gave her the book hoping she could take her time with it and gradually get it, with some explanation along the way.
I have a lot to learn about buying a house. This book is a great start. It has pointed me in the right direction and informed me about options I wasn't aware of when it comes to buying a house.
