The book concentrates on three areas of communicating in which President Clinton excels: story, status, and focus. David Gillespie is a recovering corporate lawyer, former co-founder of a successful software company and investor in several software startups. He is also the father of six young children (including one set of twins). With such a lot of extra time on his hands, and 40 extra kilos on his waistline, he set out to investigate why he, like so many in his generation, was fat.

This book is a humorous and incisive piece of observation by Dave Gillespie and Mark Warren which demonstrates the right and wrong level of status to adopt for our business lives. Whilst remaining fun, Charisma shows the reader how to tap into their own personal charisma and communicate with maximum impact. It studies a range of great communicators, from historical figures to modern day greats and highlights how their skills translate into what we call Charisma. Everyone from Franklin D Roosevelt, through Steve Jobs to Joanna Lumley is covered.

I have a fantastic book called Teach Yourself The Clinton Factor by David Gillespie and Mark Warren which explores the power of status. Regardless of your feelings for ex-American President Bill Clinton, he was an incredibly charismatic communicator. Think about your physicality when presenting to a group of people on a scale of one to ten (one being small, quiet and ineffectual; ten being over the top, loud and dictatorial). Imagine this not only in terms of physical status (stance, hand gestures, eye contact and facial expression) but also vocal tone and vocabulary.

Very well written and instructive.

The authors wanted to talk about how Clinton was able to communicate, engage and connect with his audience well.

They broke it down in to three categories: story, status, focus.

Those are critical, and we'd all agree that they're important. If we think about people like Clinton or a friend who is influential and charismatic, these friends distill story, status and focus with ease.

Therefore, I wanted the authors to create an in-depth analysis and understanding about how to develop those categories. Instead, each paragraph equates to, at max, one or two words of coherent, useful information. The book is cluttered and not a discussion about how to actually teach yourself how to develop the Clinton like qualities - story, status, focus.

Rather, read the book On Writing Well by Zinger, Elements of Wit by Errett, and Lead with a Story by Smith.

I know, three books, I recommend. I promise, even one of these books that I recommend will outline more effective techniques about how to become relaxed and confident through developing presentation, writing and storytelling skills.

The author does a great job teaching/explaining how to be a much more effective speaker. Using some of the book's techniques has really helped in our sales department! We are now much better keeping the conversation going in the direction we need and staying on point without being pushy. Wish this book had been out 10 years ago! This is a MUST READ for anyone in sales, a team leader, is a presentor.

BTW: Both Clintons should be hung for treason.
