This book is more about feel good stories of people who started a business and they liked what they were doing. If you liked Chicken Soup for the Soul, you will probably like this. I was looking for a book to give some ideas of what good businesses someone could do part-time and make some extra money. These stories covered various set up costs and barely gave an idea of what is needed. The book basically sums up to be: Find out what you like and make a plan. If you already figured that out, don't buy the book.

The Stay-At-Home Mom's Guide to Making Money is
a great resource for mothers who desire to make
money at home. Liz Folger effectively addresses
the unique needs of stay-at-home mothers and
their ability to run home businesses. This book
highlights the reality of working at
home, warns of potential home business scams and
lays out the basic elements necessary for moms to
earn money from home. Moms will be
especially enlightened by the individual
interviews with home-working mothers, which
illustrate how they started, their earning
potential and their recommendations for other moms.

I have to say that this book has excellent advice for all moms, including those with college educations. I personally have a degree with a double major in math and computer science, and I worked as an engineer for over 10 years (away from home.) I found the advice in Liz's book very helpful. I have since chosen to pursue a different career for my home-based business, but I also know many engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc. who are working at home ... many of these professional women were also interviewed in Liz's book. Whether you wish to bring your current career home or make some changes, if you want to work at home, the advice in this book will help you.

"The Stay-at-Home Mom's Guide to Making Money" is clearly the most comprehensive book of its kind! Liz Folger shares interviews of successful home-biz moms from all walks of life...from the computer-oriented and creative, to the handy and the helpful. There is something in this book for every mom who wants to expand beyond the world of packing lunches and doing laundry.
You will explore possibilities you never knew existed...and Liz will show you how to make them realities. In no time, you'll be collecting checks from your new endeavor. All you need is this book and a willingness to try.
"The Stay-at-Home Moms Guide to Making Money" is a must for all moms who want to remain at home and yet accomplish, strive and achieve.
I highly recommend Liz Folger's book. Good luck along all the avenues it takes you!!

This is a great book for someone who would like to start working out of their home. You do not have to be a "Mom" to reas, understand and use this book. Liz Folger does dirrect her book at woman who are mothers, but because of the way Ms Folger has written her book, it is very easy to scrim passed all the Mom information . There are some great tips on how to get started, the does, the don'ts and the scams as well as website addresses for a variety of related subjects. There is also an entire section in the book devoted to Home bussiness ideas . This has profiles of people who have started a bussiness and tips on How To start your own bussiness. The book is easy reading for anyone.

I agree with the other reviewer that there isn't much here for the degreed professional who wants to do what they've been trained (and love!) to do. I'd love to see a book on how to translate one's degreed expertise into a home-based business. How about a geophysicist who manages to use her science training to do something at home, rather than some craft-y type thing? I'd love to see a book for the professional woman wanting to work-at-home -- this book is not it.

It is amazing to learn about how many every day tasks have been turned into money making businesses! Everyone is different -- one person's downfall is another person's attribute -- this difference allows for our diversity in the business place. As a stay-at-home mom of 2 small children I began to yearn for adult conversation and a little extra income. To regain some sanity and contribute income to our family I decided to begin my own business with a reputatable direct selling/party plan company. I am in business for myself but not by myself which makes it a little bit less scary than starting from scratch. However, this book has opened my eyes to the variety of skills that are in demand and the opportunities there are for moms to stay home with their children -- without excessive risk. I found myself saying, "I could do that!" or "I never would have thought about that, but its a great idea!" or "I need someone to do that!" throughout the entire book. It states the facts -- businesses are hard work at first...a business idea may land in your lap but it takes dedication and knowledge to put ideas into action... and provides tips and suggestions that are not only a valuable resource for your business venture but can be applied to your personal growth as well. This book should be one of "Oprah's Book Club" selections!
Despite what a few reviewers have said, this book is an excellent resource for work at home moms. It profiles many wonderful, educated women and their dreams that they have successfully turned into a profitable home based business. Definitely worth your while. Be sure to check this one out.
