Jake the Ballet Dog book. Karen LeFrak, Marcin Baranski (Illustrations). There are a lot of Nutcracker books out there-Susan Jeffers' version is probably the best of the picture books. But this book, as told through a dog's viewpoint, is ideal for children who are going to be taken to the ballet. It doesn't just tell the story-Jake sees the ballet as they will see it. My only quibble is the faces in the illustrations are too Barbie doll like, and some of the arm positions look stiff and awkward.

Marcin Baranski doesn't own a dog yet, but after completing this book, he thinks that one might be the perfect addition to his new garden. Jake the Philharmonic Dog. Автор. Издание: иллюстрированное. This is a beautiful book that both my three year old twins and I enjoy reading. It is a lovely introduction to ballet with some basic terminology and illustrations of the five basic ballet positions. It also tells the story of the Nutcracker, with Jake the dog's antics mixed in to delight readers and spice up the plot.
I think this would be a beautiful book to give a new ballet student, or a little girl who is about to see the Nutcracker Ballet. I think it will be read quite often in our home, and I hope it sparks an interest in dance for my children.

My daughter loves ballet, The Nutcracker, and dogs...the exact combination in this book! She wants this read every night as we get closer to the holidays. It expands her vocabulary and explains each of the ballet terms.

This story was so much fun to read that my kids actually stood up and tried the "five basic positions" of ballet as the story led us through Jake and how he was watching the ballet dancers warm up at the ballet "barre". The storyline is fast, the character is adorable and the vocabulary is a great introduction to ballet. We also enjoyed the footnotes in the back of the book - who knew that a "pas de deux" is a dance for two, like the famous Dance of the Sugar Plum Faries!
