The last race between The Black, Casey, and Eclipse, was the most exciting with a finish no one had foreseen except the track handicapper. It was a disappointment when the series ended but it is nice to have them to enjoy all over again.

This book is in the Black Stallion series. Yet, like all of Mr. Carey's books it is a complete story and can be read as a stand alone. I just suggest you don't. Knowing the history of the Black, Alex, Henry and the Black filly makes the story all the better.
A beautiful farm, great race horses, lovely breeding mates and a careless stable hand make for a wonderful story.

I do own all the books in the Black Stallion series except The Black Stallion Legend which I did not like. While The Black Stallion's Revolt will always be my favorite this is my second favorite because it includes so many races run by Black Minx and The Black. The last race between The Black, Casey, and Eclipse, was the most exciting with a finish no one had foreseen except the track handicapper. It was a disappointment when the series ended but it is nice to have them to enjoy all over again.

I recently began re-reading the Black Stallion series, some 60 years after I read the books as a child. The stories and the author's love for horses have stood the test of time. This one is a fairly straightforward story with a predictable solution, but, hey, that's why we read these books as horse-crazy children and why we re-read them half a century later. Some I'd never read before, mostly because I grew up and went away to college and got married and left my horse stories behind. I'm working my way through them in the order in which they were published.

Perhaps the best of the Black Stallion books - the race descriptions are as good as it gets for a horseracing fan. All these years later, it still makes me cry.

You can read a black stallion book with out finding the real meaning of heat, courage, and speed. But to carry such high weight really was courage. Of course the black is a fictional horse, but all the real race horses such as seabiscut, secretariat, and Tiffin. Now that's courage.

Walter Farley's books taught me so much about horse racing and made it so interesting. Its followed me from age 8 to age 60. And his books still fascinate me to this day.

I had read several of THE BLACK STALLION books, but somehow this one had slipped by me. The main characters are back and true to form, and the intrigue of the track and the inside glimpses Farley gives us of both racing and the breeding of Thoroughbred horses are as much fun as ever. Alex, Henry and The Black are true friends of mine, even now that I am far from the young readership that this series was intended to reach. Recommend.
It must be tough to maintain the integrity of a series as the volumes add up, but Walter Farley continues to do so. The Black Stallion's Courage is true to the characters and has an intriguing plot. Set in the aftermath of a horrible farm accident, the Black Stallion and Alec are again put to the test. An inspirational story for all ages.
