Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Hardcover – September 24, 2001. by Robert L. May (Author), David Wenzel (Illustrator). The fearless leader of Santa's sleigh was a character created by Robert L. May in his book, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, in 1939 as part of a giveaway from Montgomery Ward. Though the text, which gives a nod to Clement C. Moore, is somewhat forced, the book gets a boost from David Wenzel's illustrations of a warm, appealing Santa. From School Library Journal.

Robert L. May penned one of America's most famous contributions to Christmas folklore while working as a copywriter for Montgomery Ward & Co. in Chicago. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 1926 and held various advertising jobs in several department stores across the country before going to the catalog company in 1936. A humble, soft-spoken man, May was gratified that children the world over responded to the story of the lonely little deer who found happiness when he gladly accepted a chance to help others.

Illustrated by David Wenzel. Robert L. May first created Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 1939 as a promotional character for the Montgomery Ward company. Little Golden books are and always have been good classic books for small children. They have all the classics and most loved characters. I ordered this book for my son for Christmas and another Little Golden book from the same seller and I'm satisfied with both. They came quick as expected with Prime free 2 day shipping. The books were brand new like they had never even had the cover open. I'm satisfied with the order, product and seller and would definitely recommend.
I bought this along with two other Christmas themed Little Golden Books. I had these same stories growing up and was excited to start collecting and reading them to my daughter. I gave them 2 stars because of the quality of the books. Overall they are OK, but the pages stick out farther than the covers on all sides (other than the spine, obviously). They protrude about 1/8 of an inch, slightly more in some spots. Aesthetically, this bothers me a lot so I trimmed them all down. Other than that, the quality seems decent. We shall see how they hold up over time.
Rudolph was one of my favorite movies growing up, and I was really excited to get this book for my sons first Christmas to read to him.

The illustrations are adorable, and the story is just the right length for an 8 month old's attention span (though there were a few times we couldn't get through it). He will enjoy it even more a few years from now.
I purchased this for an elementary school library. I read it to a group of kindergartners. It is the original story in a beautiful picture book. It differs slightly from the better known song, and cartoon. It could be used to compare and contrast literature in a primary classroom.
Perfect addition to our christmas book advent calendar. I wrap 25 Christmas books and the kids open one book every night starting Dec 1st. My kids, ages 4,2 and 1 loved this one.
No issues with this book. Very cute!
Page quality was not what I expected from "a Little Golden Book". Had the doubt that there were pages missing but couldn't verify it because the pages weren't numbered. Love the story though.
A classic. Bought as a gift to keep this great traditional book alive!
