bought this 95% for the music notation at the back. I've since compared it to an actual Jesse Fuller performance, and found the transcription to be barely recognizeable. As a kid's book it's very cute, but I may sell it back or donate it to a library or something.

If you have a child or grandchild who loves trains, this is a good one to show what an engineer looks like. I bought it because I purchased an engineer dress up set for a Christmas gift and I wanted my grandson to know what it was for.

i bought this book for my youngest grandson, at the time was 3 1/2 years old and truly loved this book. i've read it to him and his mom and dad read it over and over to him as well. it's a very good book, illustrated perfectly and written very well.

The kids love the Dead song, so the book was a no brainer. The words sound a little clumsy at times when you know the song, so we just sing the song and turn the pages. Quick book so great for getting them right to bed happy. Great present for any first time parent and Dead-Head.

If you are
a) a parent
b) a head
c) a musician
d) all of the above...get this book.

This song is a classic and the version off of reckoning always pops into my head. A fun song, with great illustrations. Your child will love this book and so will you!

Grandson loved it. He hasn't stopped singing / reading it.
Great condition.
When I first got "Monkey and the Engineer" my two girls (4 and 8) couldn't wait to hear/read the book, because the cover and illustrations were so full and rich. What I loved about the book was that it was based on lyrics from Jesse Fuller's song. Bringing the book together with the actual song (link to which is found in the book) really made the book an experience and not just a story. As for the girls' points of view, I'll let them tell you in their own words...

"The song, I think it was cool because I liked the pictures. The music sounded great. My favorite part was seeing the picture of the engineer with one eye big and one eye little."
-Maya (4 years old)

"I liked the picture of Jesse Fuller in the story because the words are a song and it looks like he's playing that song. The story was really cool. It reminded me of 'Caps for Sale' and the monkey is kind of like Curious George."
-Madison (8 years old)
