GET THIS BOOK! This soft bound book is formatted for 6th through 12th graders, although college students who may be struggling to get organized could certainly benefit from it. This book helps a student (and parents and teachers) to identify the students' best learning styles (often overlooked) and then addresses the best ways to help a student learn. Many people don't realize that visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners need different tools to help them learn more effectively AND more easily! This book will help with those challenges. I have read many other Study Skills books in order to try and help my students and this is the one I will keep and recommend to students and parents.

This book is filled with dozens and dozens of solid strategies to help students study. It is laid out as a list of strategies for various learning situations, versus an integrated system of strategies for managing school.

As a specialist in study skills, I made a lot of notes as I read through the book and learned a few new tips. With that said, this book will be very difficult for any student to tackle on his/her own; there's a lot of content and the vast majority of students will need support to get through it. Also, several of the strategies--especially the organization strategies--require a lot of unnecessary steps and supplies.

Otherwise, it's definitely one of the better study skills books available.

Among the ten books I have read for this age group, this book is in the top group. It is oriented around learning styles, which may not be immediately understandable or useful to kids who are struggling (it often takes an adult to explain learning styles to a youngster and help the young person practice the understanding), but the sections on communication, reading comprehension, note-taking, homework, memorization, and test-taking were all very good.

One item which is missing from most books of this sort is the concept of "desire." A youngster has to want to improve in order to make gains.

If I were teaching a study skills class to early high schoolers, I probably would use this book. For middle schoolers, I would use Laurie Rozakis' Super Study Skills. For late high schoolers and early college-age students, I would use William Luckie's Study Power.

Love this book. My daughter calls it her time management tutor. She is enjoying it this year and uses it as a companion to her studies. We use it in 6th grade home school setting to help her manage herself better and improve independence in completing her work and being more efficient. It is definitely written to the student and I would recommend it to students who have a desire to "do better" and for teachers/parents who want to motivate. Excellent resource

I teach study skills to 6th graders. Once I found this resource it became our textbook. The material is good for all levels. The presentation makes it usable for young people and the content is applicable to any level of student.
Great strategies. This book can be used with a parent or a tutor, providing elementary school students with guidance and feedback.
