I've noticed that every Houghton Mifflin English book always seems to cover the same basic skills To me, teaching the same thing every year is pointless. I find this book helpful for assessing both native-English speakers and ESL knowledgeable students - and, the students like the book, too! They report learning new aspects of English and solidifying known info. Teachers can create extra exercises and give supplemental info and explanations based on the material within. The book covers just about everything re working-English; the "different focus" on each page makes the study less burdensome and to the point.

I homeschool my daughter and this year I wanted actual books. The grammar section is very much to the point. The books explains the part of speech, gives examples then has you practice. There are lots of exercises for each lesson. The writing section is very detailed. The book explains about different ways to write. It tells you how to use the writing process on essays, stories, and research papers.

I home-school three children. They use this book to learn proper grammar. I like this book because it is a good beginning to a solid grammar foundation. However, it should not be used alone. I've noticed that every Houghton Mifflin English book always seems to cover the same basic skills. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, types of sentences, etc... To me, teaching the same thing every year is pointless. We use this text to teach the basic skills, and then move on to other grammar resources. Currently, my sixth grader is using this book, and he has no difficulty doing the work. As a former educator, I highly recommend this book to parents or guardians. Have your child do a little bit each day.

It's easy to follow. The illustrations are cute. It's presented in a child friendly manner. My son's skills with grammar have improved. Good investment.

After about a month using the Houghton Mifflin Eng 7 book, I can say it's as good as the previous titles in the HM series. There is a decent amount of coverage in grammar, and some coverage in writing. I personally added additional writing to my daughters workload, since I didn't feel that what was required in the HM book was enough. If you have a child that is pretty good at writing, expect them to whiz through the writing parts of this book. Overall a decent book, I'd grab the workbook that matches just to make things easier on yourself. The workbook and textbook offer differnt questions, so you can easily assign extra work from one or the other. I found my workbook here on Amazon for about 3 bucks.

Love this workbook, it is easy reading and it has black and white photos in it which my son loves. He says it makes it more fun to work on his assignments that way. We are 100% happy with this workbook! Would order this again in higher grade levels.

We are using this book for both our 4th grader and our 5th grader. We find the book to be easy to follow. We got our order in two days being part of the prime shipping on Amazon. The product was in great condition too.
