Interesting story of a Mexican family who had to leave their comfortable home and set out on a long journey for political reasons years ago. Teaches that doing the right thing in the face of bribes and perseverance ultimately pays off.

It was a wonderful book because of the adventure and all the danger and all the obstacles that the Trevino's had to face to get to Ensenada. This book was recommended by a great teacher of mine. The dangers that will be hard to overcome are sickness, bandits, animals, and much more. Obstacles that the family will face are betrayal, hunger, and shelter to survive. They will travel to many places to get to Ensenada. If you are the type of person who likes adventure and danger this is the book for you.

El Guero, the story is a pretty boring book. It talks about Ensenada when the Trevino family is moving from Mexico City to Ensenada. Maruca died at almost at the end of the story. Then Papcito went to jail and then he needed ink and paper to write a message to his family. Then El Guero went to school and Coyote went too. Both wanted to go to the same school but Tia Vicky told them no because they are going to talk Spanish every time at school so they went to different schools.
-Anthony-

I think it was boring because it didn't have any action parts in the book. I would not recommend the book to anyone because they would feel the same way. I didn't like this book because it was mostly about EL GUERO and what happened on his trip to Ensenada. Only some parts were interesting like when they arrested the dad. Everyone should agree with me that it was boring that not even a teacher would like it
-Claudio-

The book was interesting, because it tells you how the Trevino's work together to get themselves out of trouble. Also it was funny when they thought that El Guero was an Indian but he wasn't one. And they call for help then after that they took the bad guy to jail. At the end of the story they were happy when everything got back together. In the story it tells you they save each other by helping and making their own plans by the help of Captain Forker.
-Jose-

The book is kind of good but I didn't like it that much. We know there are unexpected things and sad things. The treatment for the disease they did to Maruca was way too extreme. They should disinfect her with another way in order to treat her well. They should know how to care for everybody better and be more careful. I would not tell my friends to read this book, because they'll be bored.
-Selene-

I like the story about EL Guero because it is not boring. Is not true and it is not real. Maruca died for food because Mamacita went to find Captain Forker. Also, I wanted to see more swords. I would tell my friend to read the book because it's cool.
-Billy-

It was pretty boring because it did not have good chapters. I did not like this story because one part is pretty boring because he is talking about what is his family is doing. This story was pretty cool because he tried to find his dad. It was sad because the kid's mother died. That is why I don't like this story.
-Alexis-

I disliked the book the book because it seems not true. My opinion is that I don't like when they have to leave their city. Also I don't like when they leave everything that they left. I felt bad when Maruca died for not good a treatment for her disease. That is why I disliked the book.

Naril
Borton de Trevino tells a very compelling story about her grandfather. The book was hard to put down, it was action pack and when his family is about to be saved, the style of the story changes it is as if time ran out and there is no place to place your quarter to see the end of the story. The great majority of the story is outstanding; it is well written and very well told. Providing the map in the book really adds a lot to the story
