Zoë Nightshade was a daughter of the Titan Atlas, as well as a former Hesperide who was exiled and later joined the Hunters of Artemis, becoming the loyal lieutenant of Artemis. In ancient times, Zoë tended to the Garden of the Hesperides with her sisters, caring especially for Hera's tree of golden apples. Unlike her sisters, she seemed to have a special bond with Ladon, whom she actually fed by hand.

In this third installment of the Daughters Of the Moon series, Lynne Ewing introduces us to Jimena's point of view. Unlike the first two characters, Vanessa and Serena, who are fearless when it comes to battle, but not in every day life, Jimena is the opposite. After she's lived such tough life dealing with gangs and drama, it makes Jimena more confident in herself than her sister goddesses.

I felt of all the daughters I've read so far, Jimena was the most intriguing. She knows what she wants and she goes after it right away, usually no questions asked. She's a bit cocky but that makes the fights she gets into a lot more fun to read. She's easy to relate to because she, like many people (as sad as this is) has lost someone she loved dearly and so you feel an attachment to her pain that isn't sympathy, but an understanding.

The only thing I'd have to comment about this book is the reality. Yes, I know this is a fantasy book and I shouldn't read too much into it, but one scene in particular was very difficult to believe. At one point, Jimena and Collin (Serena's brother) are running from the Followers and the next, they're chatting it up and flirting. If I were running from the bad guys, I'd keep running and do everything I could to protect my charge, rather than run a couple blocks and then talk like nothing's happened.

Other than that, the flow was much better than the previous two books and didn't seem to go so fast. Jimena's encounter with Tartarus was very descriptive and the book was overall much enjoyable.

What I liked:
-Jimena. She’s tough, she’s badass, she’s dangerous, and she knows it. I loved the look into her past and her association with a gang, because it shows us how the past has shaped her character. I also liked her relationship with Serena’s brother and I really hope it goes somewhere.
-Secondary cast. The other girls weren’t as important in this book as Jimena was. Normally, the other girls all play a big role in helping solve problems, but with this book, I felt like it was mostly Jimena, and I kind of liked that. She was a loner, and she managed to get things done herself.
-Veto’s demise. I liked the story of how Veto was killed, and how it all tied into the story. The time travel and intervention by followers was clever.

What I disliked:
- Writing. It felt very juvenile, and even though I’m older than the target audience, I should have still been able to enjoy the writing, but I didn’t. It was very choppy and it didn’t flow very well, and it lacked description of any kind.
-Length. These books are very short, and the writing is larger than average and so is the spacing, so that makes them even shorter than they appear. They probably could have been either lengthened out or she could have made them parts and put more than one together.

Overall, this wasn’t a bad book. It was alright, but a little on the boring side for me. There isn’t a lot that’s bad about it, but there isn’t a lot that's necessarily good, either. It was just kind of there, similar to the second book in the series. Some of these books are just better than others. 3.0
NOTE: PLEASE READ THE FIRST TWO BOOKS BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK. THE STORY WILL BE RUINED IF YOU DO NOT READ THE OTHER TWO BOOKS FIRST. THIS STORY IS HARD TO FOLLOW IF YOU DO NOT EVERYTHING ABOUT THE SERIES AND ALL THE REALATIONSHIPS. BY FAR THIS BOOK IS THE MOST DARING OF THE WHOLE SERIES SO DO NOT RUIN THE BOOK. PLEASE ALSO KNOW THAT JIMENA IS IN BOOK #3 & #9 DO NOT READ NUMBER 9 BEFORE THIS BOOK.

Jimena is a goddess, a daughter of the moon. Sent by Selene to protect the human beings from an ancient evil called the Atrox. Jimena, Serena, Vanessa, and Catty are all daughters of the moon. Each of them has a unique gift. Vanessa can become invisible, Catty can travel in time, Serena reads minds, and Jimena sees into the future. Lynne Ewing has designed all of the books to show us everyone's point of view at different times. This book is based on Jimena. Jimena use to be the toughest gang girl in L.A. But she gave it up once she found out she was a daughter of moon.

Through out this book Jimena struggles over the fact that her once lover Veto is dead. Veto is shot by a rebel gang group. Jimena isn't sure if she can get over her love or fall in love with Collin, Serena's brother. One day when Jimena is walking down the street she hears some one call her jaguar. Only Veto, her lost love, ever called her that. But Jimena knows he is dead. Suddenly these big booms happened through out L.A. and no one knows why. Jimena also has to deal with the fact that her best friend, Serena is having a realationship with Stanton a follower of the Atrox. And that she has to lie whenever Serena goes off with him.

Soon Jimena sees Veto, but he was supposed to be dead? Then one day when Jimena sees Veto, Stanton and Serena come out from a shadow. Then Stanton tells Jimena that Veto is a shade. Serena asks Stanton what a shade is but Jimena stops him from telling her. As the book moves on one of the most upsetting event appears that could threaten Jimena and Veto's lifes. This book is by far the most amazing love story it shows that love can destroy all.
