Jake Starts School book. Now Michael Wright brings back Jake, a young fellow who has already navigated the turbulent waters of nighttime in Jake Stays Awake.

Jake Starts School book. It's Jake's first day of school  . In Jake Starts School we see fear on display and a lesson imparted so skillfully as to almost seem like it was a sweet accident of writing rather than the author's entire goal. As first day of school books go, Wright's everyboy will strike the right chord with a whole generation of kids. And it seemed to be going so well.

Wright's illustrations hysterically expand upon the text. The characters' small eyes and elongated heads make for very droll facial expressions, while hidden details and the family dog's antics will keep readers in stitches. Co-sleeping parents who want to reclaim their territory may want to take notes.

Wright's background in cartoons and film is clearly evident, and his eccentric portrayal of people who all look like giant thumbs with arms and legs is his trademark. The preposterously shaped characters, pithy rhymes and the many emotions expressed by just a few differently drawn lines make this an enjoyable graphic experience. Bug-eyed Jake is back (Jake Stays Awake, 2007) with another problem in this very funny addition to the canon of stories about starting kindergarten. Then there it was, Room Number 1,, where Jake would join his class. It looked so big, he felt so small,, he passed a little gas.

My current titles are "Jake Stays Awake", "Jake Starts School" and "Jake Goes Peanuts".

Sometimes, it is just nice to show kids that they aren't the only ones who get nervous about the first day of school. Jake has a hard time when he realizes how big the school is and this new lady who will be in charge of him during the day. Who wouldn't be a little frightened?

Jake's parents stick with him, which is the coolest thing for a kid to see. Not only does it make their day impossible but so amusing. Jake doesn't get to eat snack, play with toys or make crafts. His playground time isn't so fun while attached to his parents out of fear of them leaving.

To reassure us all, Jake finally lets go when his teacher engages him in reading a book about a dog with the same name as his.

Its a lesson to all kids and parents that sometimes, it is ok to let go.

I picked this book up at the library because the cover caught my eye. It's silly and the illustrations are great. My 7 and 3 year old loved it so I bought a copy. My nieces got a kick out of it so I sent them a copy too. There are two other books in the Jake series which I don't think are nearly as good but this is one is terrific.

Such a cute book, my 4 year old loves it and will ask me to read it over and over. He laughs a lot through this book. An easy read for parents and not too long.

We still laugh each time we read this book. "The tricycles were terrible..." Is our favorite page because the expression on Jake's parents' faces is a riot.

great read for the first day of school!

the story is cute and the illustrations okay, but there is some inappropriate potty humor. Can't really use the book in preschool.

This was the perfect book to start the first day of Kindergarten. The kids could relate to Jake 100%.
This is a fantastic book! My kids have most of the Jake books and they can't get enough of them.
