"Hop into bed," said Mother, "and I'll tell you what I know about fairies." So begins a whimsical journey through the magic and mystery of the fairy world, where marvelous winged creatures paint rainbows, teach birds to sing, hang stars in the evening sky, and welcome children to dreamland.

First off, oh my gosh THE ART!! I could get lost in the illustrations for hours. Secondly, I like how the author doesn't reference the child's gender. Boy? Girl? Both? Neither? The readers can imagine themselves as the child. Also, I don't think it's possible to read this book in anything other than a very calm tone. We'll be having a frustrating bedtime and somehow this magical book just chills us all out instantly.

My kids, who all LOVE reading books, tend to like stories with beginnings, climaxes and endings. This book contains none of these elements, and not one of my four kids, (including my four-year-old fairy obsessed princess for whom I purchased the book), liked this book. The language is outdated, as well. (This is fine for a classic work of fiction - I'm a huge fan of Dickens and Shakespeare - but not for a modern day children's book.) The illustrations, while detailed and intricate, are also old fashioned in style, which didn't interest them. It didn't even hold their attention during the initial reading.

I purchased this book because I love Michael Hague's illustrations. There is really no story here at all. A child asks his mother about fairies as he is put to bed and she says she will tell him what she knows about them. Each page has hardly any text, but the pictures are beautiful. So this is really a picture book and not a story book. It is for the very very young....and/or someone who really likes Hague's art, as I do.

Beautifully illustrated book for children who love fairies. My granddaughter, who is an advanced 1st grade reader, read through it with only slight hesitation on some words. She seemed to find it interesting and she does love the beautiful pictures.

A beautiful bedtime story with exquisite brightly colored pictures on glossy pages. Wonderful for enticing the child who still believes in fairies - and even her grandmother. This is a wonderful story for mother-child, grandmother-child bonding. It requires belief in fairies. We have it!

Welcome to a wonderful tale of fairies. To a book of pure magic. 'Good Night, Fairies' takes you away to a magnificent land where fairies comb mermaids' hair, paint butterflies' wings and teach unicorns to fly. The story line on each page is short, thus even very little ones stay entranced in the fantasy world of fairies. It is a book, that even as an adult, you will be mesmerized by the beautiful pictures of fairies sleeping on leaves in secret gardens, dancing in the moonlight in spider's silk and hanging stars in the sky so children will have a nightlight. Children, afterall, are the closest thing to fairies! So what could be better than fairies welcoming little ones to dreamland as they drift off to sleep.

Great for children. I gave a workshop on fairies yesterday and I had the book out on the table. One participant liked it for her grandchildren, so I gave it to her. Great book.
Very nice story for old and young who like fairies
