In the 1920's a long-distance phone call can take hours. An overseas call is not possible at all. But there is a new invention, called wireless radio, that permits instant communication over long distances. An excited young boy puts on his earphones and slowly turns a dial on his radio receiver waiting to hear the electronic sounds of Morse code.

A school story is a book about what occurs at school. Who knows more about school than somebody who is there five days seven days, nine months a year? Hanna's 12-year-old little girl, Natalie starts to compose.

Radio Rescue, Lynne Barasch, 2000. Hoping to get the kids interested in learning Morse Code. once I finished my last book, I got very busy with some other, big projects. And now I'm writing again. Hope you continue to be in the writing mode. This time, I'm focused on cybersecurity (which is what I do professionally, as well).

2AZK saves the day!Back in 1923, a long-distance telephone call took hours to place, and overseas calls weren't possible at all. But a new invention, called wireless radio, permitted instant communication over long distances. A young boy, itching to get involved, buys a secondhand receiver and earphones, and studies hard to learn Morse code so that he can pass the test to qualify as an amateur radio operator and get his own station: 2AZK. Its fun talking with people all over the world just by tapping on his telegraph key (and readers can tap along - there's Morse code to follow in the pictures). Then one night he picks up a distress signal from Florida -- family stranded in flood -- and uses his skill for something more important. Based on the author's father's experiences as a young ham operator in the 1920s, Radio Rescue is an exciting story of a moment in technological history.

Buy this book and keep it on a shelf in your ham shack. If you run across a little kid who finds your private Valhalla of dials, knobs and blinking lights absolutely fascinating, give it to him or her. Sadly, these days, such kids are few and far between. Most of them, when shown a well-equipped ham station such as mine, yawn and wander off looking for the iPad. But every now and then, you run across a kid who gets it. This book is for them!

This was recommended to me by an Amateur Radio enthusiast. My 5-year old grandson loves me to read it to him over and over. Unfortunately, the book seems to be out of print.

The book is quite nice. My only issue is the rather light type faces used throughout the book. I believe that medium weight faces would be much easier for a child (or even an adult) to read.
The content is better than I expected. I have been a HAM/Radio Amateur for over 30 years, and know a bit about the subject. A good story, and a pleasant read.
I purchased this book for one of my young grandsons, as he is developing an interest in electricity and radio communication.

Both of my boys went right to reading it and asked good questions. They are 7 and 12 years old.

I purchased this book for my little boys who are ham radio operators. I loved this book as well!

Even though this is a children's book I purchased this for my father (a history buff, a ham, and a Floridian). He loved it!
