I recently purchased this book for my 7 year old son.

This book is about 2 bears names Nelly and Sam. Nelly starts the day off by giving Sam a shake to wake him up. Sam was having a dream about fat, floppy fish, and didn't want to get up. Nelly suggested they go find some fish. They rush down to the river where they notice several other bears are already their looking for fish. The other bears were not happy that Sam and Nelly have showed up. One even wonders what kind of mess they are going to make this time. Nelly and Sam clumsily head into the river, which causes a commotion with the other bears. Sam tells them that they will be more careful and the other bears agree that they can fish with them as long as they behave. They all wait very still. Lots of fish start swarming. The bears have never seen so many. All the bears start snapping at fish, but the fish are much faster than the bears. All the bears had a great time, even if they didn't catch any fish. All the bears settle down for a nap. Nelly and Sam know they are different from the other bears, but it doesn't bother them. They are a little clumsy, but they still have a good time.

My son really enjoyed this book. We have read it several times together.

We've read some stupid early readers, but I think this is the worst. The story is so bad it's actually hard for a kid to follow. The illustrations are ghastly and incomprehensible. The flying fish and the toothless, handless bears cavort in the water ecstatically on every page. How do these things get published? Surely there should be some competition in children's publishing, yet there is so much dreck.

The story in this book is just plain stupid. The bears wake up hungry, so the hungry bears go to the river to *play* with fish. "The fish had fun", then "All of the bears had so much fun, they forgot they were hungry." Apparently it is not politically correct for bears to eat fish. In the sequel, is it politically correct for bears to die of starvation?

Also, the pictures are very repetitive, particularly the bears' faces. Early readers deserve better.
