Peter Criss would really, really like it if we did. Makeup to Breakup is essentially one long passive-aggressive . Again, this is the impression you get from Criss’s own book, though admittedly you have to read between the lines. He’s his own unreliable narrator.
Peter Criss would really, really like it if we did. Makeup to Breakup is essentially one long passive-aggressive plea for sympathy, starting with the opening line: Have you ever tasted the barrel of . 57 Magnum down your throat? What pushed Criss to this suicide attempt? . All the railing Criss does against friends and lovers who cruelly turned against him only succeeds in making him look like a comically monstrous egotist.
Criss’ book is wonderfully sleazy and graphic even for a rock-star memoir. Makeup To Breakup dishes the dirt, literally: The book repeatedly references Simmons’ refusal to bathe or wash his leather pants
Criss’ book is wonderfully sleazy and graphic even for a rock-star memoir. At the height of Kiss mania, Criss almost literally had to fight girls off with a stick. His entire universe was saturated with orgies, champagne, and cocaine freak-outs. There are levels to rock-star decadence. Makeup To Breakup dishes the dirt, literally: The book repeatedly references Simmons’ refusal to bathe or wash his leather pants.
Early in the book, Criss describes a gang encounter that quickly escalates into a blood bath. Dirty Livin’: Co-frontman Gene Simmons’ aversion to showering is one of the book’s leitmotifs. This Puerto Rican kid was right behind me and he grabbed a garbage can lid and started beating my head in with i. .I popped my switchblade out, turned around, and boom, the blade went right up his armpit and out through his shoulder. Evidently the dude stinks something fierce. Here’s a representative selection, as Criss describes hanging out with the Demon: Every night he wore the same blue work shirt that said KISS on it, so he stunk to high hell.
