Extreme weather and climate change. So those who braved the sunshine came prepared. And climate scientists are now confident that heatwaves are more likely and more extreme because of climate change.

Extreme weather and climate change.

Extreme Weather has middle-upper primary students look at dangerous and destructive weather patterns that can occur in many parts of the world, such as storms, droughts and floods. It is part of the Weather and Climate series that: explains how weather and weather forecasting work; explores different weather and climate conditions; and investigates how people live with weather and climate. Diagrams and maps show the location of weather and climate zones on Earth, and large photos and informative captions explain the effects of weather and climate.

Extreme Weather book. This exciting series teaches readers all there is to know about Earth's climate and weather.

Extreme weather includes unexpected, unusual, unpredictable, severe, or unseasonal weather; weather at the extremes of the historical distribution-the range that has been seen in the past. Often, extreme events are based on a location's recorded weather history and defined as lying in the most unusual ten percent. In recent years some extreme weather events have been attributed to human-induced global warming, with studies indicating an increasing threat from extreme weather in the future.

Weather and climate extremes might propel adaptation both to a stable climate and its characteristic extremes, as well as to underlying changes, if they reveal vulnerabilities, cause damage, and make slow change more noticeable. In theory, extremes act as focusing events that overcome barriers to adaptation and accelerate policy responses. This pace-making might be attenuated by uncertainty in interpreting trends, and extremes might also miscue decision makers, perhaps pointing in the wrong direction or evoking over-adaptation.

Weather and Climate focuses on the phenomenon of weather and how it affects people and the environment. The books in the series explain how weather and weather forecasting works, explore different weather and climate phenomena, and examine how people live with weather and climate in their regions.
