The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ is a book by Levi H. Dowling. It was first published on 1 December 1908.

The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ is a book by Levi H. Dowling said he had transcribed the text of the book from the akashic records, a purported compendium of mystical knowledge supposedly encoded in a non-physical plane of existence. In the later 20th century, it was adopted by New Age spiritual groups.

This book is an extensive reworking of the Jesus story with strong Theosophical and Spiritualist influences. The Aquarian Gospel was probably one of the catalysts for the 'Jesus freak' movement. Of interest is the attempt to fill in the two decade gap in the Jesus's traditional biography. According to Dowling, Jesus spent a lot of time in the mystical East where he learned esoteric methods from the masters, while rebelling against the caste system. Although they would never admit it, many a staid evangelical Christian probably had their spiritual awakening while browsing this book in a head shop.

LEVI (Levi H. Dowling) was born May 18, 1844 in Belleville, Ohio. After his retirement from medicine in the early 1900 s, Levi resumed his literary work and began to organize THE AQUARIAN GOSPEL OF JESUS THE CHRIST for publication. Levi passed from earth-life on August 13, 1911.

THe Urantia Book - OAHSPE - the Aquarian Gospel - and like half a dozen others, all have three major things in common: they all started religions, they were all created by automatic writing, and they were all written by doctors. Coincidence? Medical I'm surprised there isn't more goodreads entries on this thing. Transcribed by Levi Dowling in the early 1900.

The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus The Christ is a far-reaching work that brings to light the intimate details of Christ's life upon which the New Testament gospels are silent, written from the original "Akashic Records" by a student who devoted forty years to prepare for the task.

Dowling, who devoted forty years of preparation to the task of transcribing this volume's contents from original Akashic records, further asserts the reality of reincarnation and its culmination in the perfection of the human soul. Tracing Jesus' life from his birth in Bethlehem to his ascension from the Mount of Olives, Dowling offers complete details concerning the savior's years among monks, wise men, and seers throughout the Orient. Readers with an interest in occult lore and the history of religion will find this remarkable volume a source of endless fascination

This book was The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ by Levi H. Destined to be continually derided by those who give liking unto nothing, but what is framed by themselves, and hammered on their anvil 1–in other words the Bible-believing of varying stripes–it yet evoked a response in those who intuited and sought for a deeper meaning of the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Firstly, it made no claim to be the word of God or even perfect–much less infallible–in its expression

The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ is Levi's most famous work, published in 1907. In it, he fills in the missing years of Jesus' life with reports on his early education with Jewish rabbis, a trip to India where he learned about Hinduism and the Vedas, and his further travels to Tibet, Persia, Assyria, Greece, and Egypt. The historical accuracy of Levi's writing is questionable, and the work is considered apocryphal by all but the Church Universal and Truimphant, but his message bolsters the heroic image of Jesus as a savior of men everywhere. American preacher and author LEVI H. DOWLING (1844-1911) was a dedicated ascetic who observed intense meditation and fasting in order to strengthen his spiritual power and understanding. With this practice, he claimed to have gotten access to God's Book of Remembrance, which contains all knowledge of history, and wrote a number of histories based the revelations within that book.

I'm only have way through this scripture and it has inspired my life. I call it scripture because the words speak much faith and knowledge. I grew up Christian in the Mennonite denomination and didn't really enjoy church and didn't feel the faith was really being shown. It seemed 2 sided and I thought "there is more than being spoken of". I tried to descover thyself with no help and I must say it is very hard if not impossible for me to do. I came upon this scripture one day when I had enough of my life and couldn't take the pain anymore. I broke down and gave up and asked "Jesus" for help. A spirit spoke to me and this is where it lead me. "Study Jesus the Christ teachings" it said so this scripture is the beginning of my journey to study myself and understand faith. I recommend this to anybody with an open mind and looking for clerification on there own spiritual journey to know thyself. It has many parables and many stories correlate with the KJV bible. A lot of information is never spoken in the bible that I know of. Levi writes about Jesus the Christs early years growing up. The language is easy to read and understand for all ages. Thanks.

I recommend this book especially for students in transition from orthodox religion to a greater spiritual awareness. I was always aware that the story of Jesus in the Bible was not the whole story, though the teachings of Jesus given were sufficient for living a true Christian life. My yearning for the whole truth was satisfied by the revelations in The Aquarian Gospel. A real treasure for the Spiritual Seeker. Read ALL the introductory sections. You'll be astounded!

Fantastic read. Every page has tons to learn from. It reads as though Christ truly did say these things. The parables the wisdom the mysticism all of it. I have read the bible dozens of times cover to cover in various translations. This book belongs in the canon.

I remember this book when it first hit the shelves back in the 60's and was always intrigued by it. Maybe due to my interest in the missing years of Jesus from the bible (i.e., 13 to 30). Also am a believer in his travels to India and surviving the cross so it especially holds a lot of food for thought.

Well, if you are not too religious, or rather, if you are confused by the Bible, then stories of Jesus and His missing years are well worth knowing about. Strange how they left out His extra studying in the Ashram in the many versions of bible! After all, it is important to know all that is possible about the Real Jesus, not just the political stuff.

Yes, like history, there is too much picking, choosing, editing, and deleting in the main versions!

Yesterday I ordered this book to be sent to a pen pal friend in prison. I did so for a few reasons. One is that prisons allow many fundamental Christians virtually free reign in their attempts to "save" the sinners all prisoners are. These well meaning folks in many cases essentially add to the guilt and alientation virtually all prisoners share. Another reason I'm sending it to my friend is that he is well respected for his insights regarding spirituality so when he recommends this book those that know him will be prone to consider what it invites.
Reading a few reviews I can see where what is contained in the book is quite threatening. One person looked at it primarily in the historical perspective using the Bible as the benchmark to disagree with its accuracy.
For me having first read this work over 20 years ago the invitations within it are not just about Jesus by any means. It is a metaphysical treatise. If one has an open heart and mind there will be found within its pages invitations to move past some of our self created limitations.
People quibble if its Divinely inspired. Those that do do not accept and understand that everything is at its core Divine. In time they will.
If you are seeking a further understanding of your place and relationship with what Is this book could help.
Namaste,
Michael

I carried this book everywhere with me in the late 60s and early 70s..A lot of good information and a text telling how to live and treat others-Karma,forgiveness,etc-It tells the story of the lost years of Jesus we never hear about--He is a baby then 33 and crucified-very little in between--This was basically the hippie bible==Even if you don't believe the story per se as told thru prophet Levi you will get something from it--I guarantee it and it is readable--There are thees and thous but not to the point you say" I cant read this.'. Very happy to own it again..
A wonderful way to study the Master Jesus's life.
