This thin volume is packed with wisdom and warmth.
If lifts us out of the moral turmoil that seems to creep up on Christians who are trying to stay sane...kind, forgiving, peaceful, hopeful....in a crazy world and shines a light on the goodness (and brokenness) in all of us.

Bob Beverley invites us to use balance, fairness, common Christian sense, in looking at others and ourselves.

Remarkable how one small book (and one insightful author!) can touch readers so deeply.

This short read will help you recognize points you may already know and confirm you are on the right track or make you think about how to improve your current day to day life. When you think about the problems facing the world today it lead you to believe there are no solutions. Page 9 gives you some thing to think about and if more people acted on it the world situation would improve.

Don't let the title fool you; this book isn't just for Christians. It is for anyone of any faith, even those without any faith. Yes, it is targeted toward a Christian audience, but not once, and I mean not once, did I get the sense of being "preached to" or judged. Instead, I got the sense that the author is on this very journey himself and simply wants to share what he has learned with the rest of us.

And what is it that he has learned? He has learned that being a Christian doesn't automatically make a person compassionate, loving, or sane. And I'd venture to say this is also true of many non-Christians who like to think of themselves as "good" people.

No doubt this is going to be a bitter pill for some people - probably those of us who need it most. And while it's been said that there are only two ways to tell the truth - anonymously and posthumously, Beverley shows there is actually a third way; you can tell it compassionately. And this book is proof.

Beverley's experience as both a minister and a psychotherapist helps him blend the words of scripture with the stark reality of life in a way that gives comfort, direction, and hope. And in today's world, I cannot think of a greater gift one person can give another.

Having a 'faith' but unsure where my faith comes from made the title of this book one in which I wasn't too sure what I'd get out of it.

How wrong was I? I learned to so from Bob that i can honestly say that my life is a better place to be now I have read it.

What is it that makes a good person? Is it ok to be mad? Do you have to believe everything your teachers of what every description tell you?

Bob simply has the answers many of us have and have questioned ourselves about. I truly believe if Bob chose a different title and re-released the book then it would become a much bigger seller and the staple diet of anyone looking for inspired guidance.

Bob Beverley seeks to counteract the arrogance and superficiality he sees in some parts of Christianity with good common sense, humility, and an indomitable energy. One of his central points is that we might best look within humbly, and not harshly at others' faults. He presents his own experiences, the insights he has gained from them, and references biblical passages to buttress his ideas. He is nonjudgemental; when he says that we will hurt others and be hurt by them he does so from the standpoint of realism and love. He also gives some practical suggestions for building character and for appreciating how very tender and devoted to their characters some may be--and therefore worthy of gentleness.

Its amazing how applicable this book is to a broader audience than just Christians, but how appropriate it is for the Christian world to hear.
The blend of Christian and psychotherapeutic ideas, theories and calls to action will make me, and anyone who reads it, live a more peaceful, less-judgemental, wisdom-seeking, sane life.
