As far as Raphael was concerned, this was the worst part of being a vampire and he wished Simon didn't have to go through it. But he would do what he could to make it easier on the young vampire, even if it meant taking matters into his own hands. Simon knew it was all kinds of weird, he knew it. There was no way he was back at the DuMort and Raphael was happy about that but it seems he had low expectations because here he was: starting anew with him. He was back at the hotel, back to the clan.

The chapters of this book are like a "map of life," in the sense that they deal with such important issues as the nature of love, the nuptial meaning of the body, the meaning of loyalty to our commitments, the connection between love and excellence, the importance of forgiveness, and the relationship between love and freedom.

"The Freedom of Love" provides clear thinking about what love really is and what it is not. For a book on a subject as difficult as love, I appreciated the approach taken by Mr. de Santiago. Rather than flowery, perfumed words, the book challenged me to think about whether when I say that I love someone, whether I really mean, I like what that person can do for me, or that person is fun to be around and doesn't require me to do anything I don't want to do. As described in this book, love is an action, a giving of oneself for the good of the person that is loved. In one of my favorite passages in the book, Mr. de Santiago writes, "What we give to others is in fact the only thing that we can truly call our own - the rest is either a gift that we have received, or something that we have acquired using those God-given talents. At the end of our lives we will only have what we gave." The book does an excellent job of distinguishing feelings and sentimentality from love. Love is hard work, but the rewards are great. This book would be excellent for high school students and would no doubt generate active debate and questions. The approach taken by the author challenges the status quo and the concept of love one finds on reality TV shows and in the mainstream media. I highly recommend this book for anyone that loves someone, is loved by someone, or needs to love someone - and that's all of us.

Not often does one find a book which can simplify complex theological and philosophical concepts into understandable logic and arguments. But "Freedom of Love" does exactly that for the Catholic viewpoint on the purpose of life and role love plays into one's life. Even if one is not Catholic, anyone can appreciate the philosophical points presented and the logic used as defense. For someone who is Catholic, the book can act as a great strengthening tool for more advanced theological or philosophical debate and apostolate. For someone who isn't Catholic, the book still provides valuable insight into the reasoning behind a great deal of Catholic teachings and is an excellent introduction towards understanding spiritual ways of thinking. Easy to reference and read, "Freedom of Love" is a great addition to anyone's library who might be interested in Catholicism, spirituality, or philosophy. Overall, an excellent book with truly influential ideas and truths held within.

This book can help men and women of teenage years through adulthood to pause and think about the way they understand the meaning of love and how to live the true meaning of love. If we learn and listen to the ideals written in this book we will not only have Freedom but also true peace and joy which comes from loving in the best way!
