This is a perfect devotion for a Jr high kid. Easy to understand and funny. Good book for a small group it has discussion questions in back.

It was a very easy read mainly because of the humor. Some connections between the film and Scripture were a stretch, but the authors claim it in the beginning. Fun devotional for a youth group ages 11-17.

this is a good book when youwant to bring religion into the everyday life of a teenager. It's not overly domineering and its discussions work into ife as we know it.

Yes, this is a Christian Devotional. If you are a Christian and a fan of the movie, then you'll enjoy looking at the events in the movie from a Spiritual point of view. If you're not a Christian, this could be a good introduction to the truth for you, just so long as you know that's what you're getting. I guess a lot of people thought this was going to be some "spiritualistic new age enlightening zen" kind of thing and were disappointed when they got the book and it talked about Jesus, but hey, maybe if they actually read it and thought about what it was saying rather than just getting offended at the name of the one person who loved them more than anyone they'll ever know, the book could actually change their lives......

I saw all the five star ratings for this book and got real excited. But what a great disappointment. There are 24 chapters and each one starts with a great Napolean quote consisting only of a few words. Then the author takes about five pages to preach a sermon and attempt to "christianize" Napoleon's quote even ending with a quote from the Bible. It might make a nice juvenile Sunday School lesson manual. If you want to be entertained, do NOT buy this book. If you want to see Napoleon belittled and dragged through the mud of religion, you'll like this.

NAPOLEON DYNAMITE was an unexpected successful break-out comedy in 2004. Published early in 2005, TAMING A LIGER is a Christian devotional book (mostly aimed at teenagers) that capitalized on the popularity of NAPOLEON DYNAMITE among youth.

The book consists of twenty-four devotions. Each devotion begins with a quote from NAPOLEON DYNAMITE that is followed by an explanation of the quote that describes the scene in the movie. This information is then compared or contrasted with messages from the Bible. Each of the devotions end with a piece of Bible scripture. Therefore, basically, the authors use short scenes from NAPOLEON DYNAMITE as teachable moments within a Christian worldview.

In addition to the devotions, there is a short introduction. There is a glossary that "explains" unusual words used in the movie. Also, the book contains some cooking recipes written in a way that Napoleon might have described them. Lastly, there are some discussion questions at the end of TAMING A LIGER that can be used as a starting point for a group discussion.

The devotions are good for what they are; they aren't very deep, but they do make a point and the writing is easy to follow and understand. However, I'm just not sure there's much life left for a devotional book like this. I enjoy watching the movie NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. The film has a cult following and recently spawned a shortly-lived animated series. Yet, the movie doesn't seem to have the lasting impact that many other cult films do and unless someone is already familiar with NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, they won't understand much of this book. The book is definitely aimed at teens which made sense when the movie first came out because they were the target audience. However, those teens are full-fledged adults now with children of their own. The current batch of teenagers, overall, isn't familiar with NAPOLEON DYNAMITE.

The glossary is cute and might actually help someone unfamiliar with the movie to understand certain words and phrases used. However, the recipes at the end of the book are nothing more than filler; they serve no real purpose other than trying to be cute and to add a few pages to the total page count. The discussion guide at the end of the book provides some questions to discuss with a group. Although not all the questions are directly related to the movie, they do provide a nice starting point for a group discussion.

TAMING A LIGER is Christian devotional book aimed at teenagers who are familiar with the movie NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. Fans of NAPOLEON DYNAMITE might enjoy the book and it could make a useful tool for an ambitious youth pastor or youth leader. Sweet.
