It was one of several of his stories that he read aloud in the evening services in the Central Congregational Church in Topeka, Kansas, where he was the church's first minister. His plan was to leave his stories on a cliffhanger, to make sure the congregation returned the following Sunday!

The minister said that it is necessary for the disciple of Jesus to follow His steps, and he said the steps are 'obedience, faith, love and imitation. But I did not hear him tell you just what he meant that to mean. I get puzzled when I see so many Christians living in luxury, and singing, 'Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow Thee,' and remember how my wife died in a tenement in New York City, gasping for air and asking God to take the little girl too. "Of course, I don't expect you people can prevent everyone from dying of starvation, lack of proper nourishment and tenement air.

Excellent book for anyone to read. It makes you question what you hold dear. Our 16 year old son was rocked by its message and we noticed a change in attitude from him after reading this book. I recommend it to anyone.

Many years ago a very Knowledgeable Pastor in Pembroke Pines, Florida answered my one question for the day: Where did this whole WWJD thing start? I saw multitudes of folks wearing these wrist bands with those four letters on them.
Well, I don't consider myself the most religious guy around.
I'm like a Zen-Baptist. He told me to read this book and yes, it all started here. Actually there, in the year 1896. It's a story about sacrifice, the risks some took proving their belief in God and the outcome of those risks.
It is a story of doing the Right thing and sticking to that decision.
Next time you go do something questionable, ask yourself: What Would Jesus Do?
And if by chance you can follow In His Steps, You are further along than I.
If you purchase this book in any format (hard or soft cover), do not buy the abridged version. Buy the full version, I did. It's one of my other reviews. There are no short-cuts in life or on the path to enlightenment.

This book makes you think about what is important in life. It is not for those who are looking to be entertained by a book but rather for those on a journey to change. This book is fictional but it makes you consider how your choices not only effect your life but that of generations to come.

It is a well written novel as it keeps the readers attention and suspense. It also makes the reader call him or her self into account about their own Christian commitment and if they are really walking in the light and shining the light of Christ or not.

The first book that ever challenged how I thought about myself in terms of how God would rather have me act.

This is what Christianity is all about. Nothing less. We are privileged to be part of the family of God. Hallelujah!!!

This is one of those books I reread every five or six years.
I wish I had ordered the unabridged version. We are using it as a study and the unabridged would have been better. It is however a great read and gets you thinking.
