For more than 60 years the Christian church has gone around the world telling people to "pray this little prayer after me" in order to be 'saved' or converted. Some call it "Asking Jesus into your heart" or 'Giving your heart to the Lord,' or praying the "Sinner's prayer." But would it surprise you to learn that such a thing is found NOWHERE in the entire Bible? We have records of literally THOUSANDS of people becoming converted in the Bible, yet NOT ONCE does anyone employ such a method. The "little prayer" simply does not exist. So why are we going around the world getting people 'saved' in a way that is totally different from the Bible? And is such a "salvation" really any salvation at all? What is the actual pattern of conversion that the apostles DID use? All these questions and more are answered in this provocative book.

The book was interesting to read. The case for baptism as a matter of forgiveness/salvation is good and Mr. Strom uses Scripture well to support that view. While the Sinner's Prayer is addressed, a history of how this practice came to be during the late 1800's would have helped present it as a tradition of men.

His points concerning speaking in tongues are weak and not particularly in keeping with biblical instruction. He has inferred (wrongly I believe) that every early Christian spoke in tongues - some publicly and all privately, but there is no evidence of this in Scripture. Using Mr. Strom's argument from 1 Corinthians 12, we would have to insist that some were public apostles and all were apostles privately; some healed publicly while all healed privately; some had the gift of public prophecy while all had the gift of privately prophesying; etc.

For those who wish to understand the role of baptism in the plan of salvation, the arguments are good. Beyond that, I believe the book is wanting.

Although I do no agree with the authors theology, I find his subject approach to be thorough, bold and penetrating. Andrew has a history of putting his truth before his income and Christianity would be immeasurably improved if others who claim to be it's champions followed suit. I have had a reward of US.$10,000 posted on my website for coming up 10 years now, daring anyone to show me a sinners prayer in the Bible. 10 Years - NO takers. Earlier christian evangelists took no prisoners. Modern christianity practices a catch and release program, centered around a magic prayer. Andrew is to be thanked for wheeling the dogma dictocrats illusions of adequacy right up to them. However, do not expect them to either agree or to admit their orthodox heresy. Sadly, it doesn't seem to work that way. For anyone who has niggling questions about christianity but can't quite approach them, this book is an excellent place to start.

RIGHT ON Andrew Strom! Great treatise on the heresy of the "sinner's prayer" heresy.

I gave this a five star rating simply because this book addresses from Scripture a serious problem in the evangelical community. Evangelical Christianity has strayed from it's biblical roots with a pop salvation that ignores the biblical pattern of salvation in favor of a cheap substitute. The results have been a bland and powerless intellectual assent that is light years away from the dynamic faith of the first century believers.

In this short book, Andrew Strom goes straight to the scriptures, using short Bible studies whereby the reader is given the opportunity to read the scriptures in context, enabling him/her to discover the biblical pattern of salvation. In doing so, it becomes quite obvious that 21st century Christianity's conventional way of crossing the threshold into faith in Jesus Christ through the "sinner's prayer" is nowhere to be found in Scripture.

Strom sets forth the biblical pattern in contrast to the man-made contrived means that has become so commonplace in contemporary evangelicalism. No one should have any doubt in their mind after reading Strom's presentation. It's not so much what the author says, but what the scriptures plainly reveal. Everyone who is interested in walking out a biblical faith needs to read this book. If the basic beginning of our faith is started wrongly, what follows will be problematic as well. This book will help get believers started in the right way.

This book is a "must have" for all churches/denominations/christians.
This book is one of the most important christian books you can get today, because Andrew clearly shows according to the Scripture
if we are saved or not. You will get the crucial answer if you are on your way to hell or heaven.

Andrew is in impeccable company advocating for immediate baptism by immersion for new converts, Derek Prince believed and practised the same. On the basis of the biblical evidence set out in Andrew's book, no-one, I believe, can see the 'sinner's prayer' for conversion as anything other than a recent invention by influential Christians no doubt for sincere purposes, but nevertheless not based in the Scriptural perspective. Yeshua himself neither prayed a 'sinners prayer' with anyone, (the thief on the cross the woman at the well), but nor did he baptise anyone! Thank you Andrew.
Very well presented and made me do some serious Bible study!! I really made me think about one of the most serious problems in the mainline churches.
