Light from Light book. An excellent text on Christian mysticism. It contains excerpts of primary source writings and brief biographies of the great spiritual writers in the Christian tradition.

Light from Light book. Required reading for my students.

Light from Light is a very well written anthology of mystical christian saints, I especially . I think many anthologies of Christian mysticism survey too many authors too briefly and the reader struggles to take much out of the book.

This anthology does an excellent job of providing accurate and concise introduction to the mystics themselves along with reasonable selections of writings, 10-15 pages in most cases. The book is quite long, but the reader will come away with a good knowledge of each mystic. 13 people found this helpful.

Louis Karel Dupré (born 1925) is a Catholic phenomenologist and religious philosopher. He was the T. Lawrason Riggs Professor in Yale University's religious studies department from 1973 to 1998, after which he became Professor Emeritus. His work generally attempts to tie the modern age more closely to medieval and classical thought, finding precursors to Enlightenment and Reformation events that were naively viewed as revolutions. Dupré is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Focusing on 25 Christian writers (mainly pre-18th century), this has both a general introduction and individual brief discussions of each mystic included. All featured writers refer to experience (though not always in the private sphere) as well as to cognitive insights.
