The Godless Delusion is good, but not great, and could have been more polite. It is certainly unique since I had never heard of "Catholic before I picked up this book. What is surprising in a book sub-titled "A Catholic Challenge to Modern Atheism" is that Catholic writers (the Popes, Catholic theologians, etc) are not quoted for the most part (the Catechism is, and the evangelical anti-evolution lawyer Phillip E. Johnson is referred to often), and traditional Catholic arguments for the existence of God are not used or defended to.

The Godless Delusion : A Catholic Challenge to Modern Atheism. by Patrick Madrid and Kenneth Hensley. Thus book is terrible, all their arguments do is display their complete lack of knowledge on either side of the debate, and even if you assume every argument is true it still doesn't have any arguments that specify the Christian God. They also don't even try to combat any of Richard Darwin's arguments at all, which is unforgivable for a response book. All in all very disappointing.

Patrick Madrid and Kenneth Hensley look at the contradictions of the atheists with themselves, showing that . The Godless Delusion takes on the 'new atheism' of our times and pulls the rug right out from underneath it.

I was curious to read this book because I thought the authors had taken on a great challenge in responding to The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

I was curious to read this book because I thought the authors had taken on a great challenge in responding to The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. This book attempts to defend religion and the existence of God by using religion itself, morality and values as proof that God exists. The reader is told, since people can tell right from wrong, there is a God. The authors also use some horrible dictators in our history as proof that Atheists are bad people. by Patrick Madrid, Kenneth Hensley.

Full-Scale Frontal Assault on New Atheists Stronghold..."...With remorseless logic, wit, skill, and boundless, joyful enthusiasm, The Godless Delusion lays waste that stronghold, routs the enemy, occupies the high ground for Christ their king, and dares anyone to retake it." Ronald K. Tacelli, SJ, professor of philosophy, Boston College, co-author of Handbook of Christian ApologeticsIn this hard-hitting book, apologetics experts Patrick Madrid and Kenneth Hensley help Christians to wake up to the crisis of godlessness, alerting them to the imperative need to take seriously atheism's challenge, while learning how to effectively engage in today's atheistic debate."Patrick Madrid and Kenneth Hensley look at the contradictions of the atheists with themselves, showing that above all, their arguments against God are at embarrassing odds with their own everyday experience and actions, their own deepest assumptions, and their own moral compass." Benjamin Wiker, Ph.D., author of Ten Books that Screwed Up the World and Answering the New Atheism"The Godless Delusion takes on the new atheism of our times and pulls the rug right out from underneath it. I wholeheartedly recommend this work of apologetics for anyone who is serious about defending our faith in the existence of God." Bishop Michael Sheridan of Colorado Springs"The Godless Delusion is a clear and compelling critique of naturalism and the new atheism that rests upon it. Madrid and Hensley show that the secularist's pose of moral and rational superiority is undermined by his own fundamental philosophical assumptions." I really enjoyed this book. It's written with a style that makes it accessible to the average person. You don't need to have a deep background in philosophy or theology to understand the arguments made here. Patrick Madrid and Ken Hensley take on the issues of how atheists try to come up with a morality (majority rule, opinions of experts, don’t cause harm to others, etc.) and how these methods don’t work. They also spend much of the book trying to explain how the Christian worldview can account for things that people experience in life while the naturalist and purely material worldview cannot. These things include knowledge, truth, justice, beauty, free will, and the ability to think and reason. Can these realities that people experience be explained in a purely material way (i.e. chemical reactions in the brain, generous bundles of nerves)? The book makes heavy use of reductio ad absurdum and presuppositional arguments which are pretty effective in many cases. It does not use Jesus and salvation but relies more on logic and the view of life that Christians have. A few Bible passages are used early on when the Christian worldview is explained. Also, a few effective paragraphs from the Catholic catechism are used as well.

The book answers the so-called “new atheism” that pits science against religion. There is not a conflict between the two because they cover different areas of inquiry. Christianity surely doesn’t deny science, but God and religion are viewed through epistemology, theology, and philosophy. These fields can arrive at answers for important topics such as “does life have a meaning?” “what is our purpose?” and “how should we live?” In contrast, chemistry studies the composition, properties and behavior of matter, biology studies living organisms, and so forth. Plenty of atheists from the enlightenment era through the present day are quoted and critiqued, and other Christians’ responses to them and atheism is general are included.

It's relevant in current times when attacks on religion from Hollywood, the press, and militant atheists are rampant. When so-called experts and school textbooks claim that humans are merely evolved machines and life is meaningless, this book helps to show another important and relevant counter viewpoint. Recommended for Christians and even other monotheists who want to see how to better justify their belief in God. Also recommended for atheists, agnostics, and people of other faiths who want to read a thoughtful and well-articulated summary of the Christian worldview and a multifaceted justification for belief in God. If you read the entire book, you should at least have a respect for believers whether or not you totally agree with them.

It's fashionable to disdain the divine in us. Many are making big money writing about their desire that God not exist. Their explanations and "proofs" all are inadequate for the solid thinker. Patrick Madrid, as he usually does, is straightforward, kind and intelligent with his analyses and responses to the argumentation of those humans who make claims that God cannot possibly exist. Thanks, Patrick, for being lucid in your explanations and refutations.

A great rebuttle to the "God Delusion". Patrick Madrid is one of my favorite Apologists and he does a great job picking apart the claims of the afformentioned book. I think this book would be great for any Christian looking to defend their faith in a world becoming more socially "Godless"... or for an Athiest that wants some homework on how to further defend their beliefs.

This book met all of my expectations. I will use this in some of my classes that I am taking in Lay Ministry.
The beginning words of the book probably say it best of all:
"Something strange and unsettling is happening in America.
A fiercely militant, hegemonic, openly aggressive kind of godlessness is on the rise
in the very country renowned the world over for its official motto,
"In God We Trust."

Really enjoyed reading this book. It certainly surprised me, but I'm glad I purchased this book. I have a few books by Patrick Madrid.
After he came our church, St. Marys' in Chandler, Arizona I was hooked. He is a fantastic speaker.

Very good book, though the first few pages are without much food for thought. The authors eventually pick up pace and then it's really hard to put the book down. I think it is very disingenuous, that some review critic the book without having gone past the first chapter. For some reviewers to refute the fact that, atheist regimes have caused the worst crimes against humanity, is to simply be in denial.

'The Godless Delusion' truly had me laughing out of sympathy for the atheist position. You really need more faith than a christian , to believe in a world without God as its author. He takes a very commonsensical approach and this book is truly an edifying read.
Read this and then went and saw the movie "God's Not Dead" ..... The movie could have used just this book. In fact for any person of Faith up against bullying professors and even grade school teachers this is a very good read
