In a book that is at once a manifesto and a devotional guide, Trevethan vividly reminds us that holiness is an essential characteristic of the biblical Lord. Like few other books recently written, The Beauty of God's Holiness wakes readers from spiritual slumber and uncages the living God so often domesticated in our time.

This book is a well written book on a topic that is so neglected yet is the most crucial to understand. It is not a typical theology book, not that theology is bad. I love theology. It contains some very solid theology but it is continually related back to the beauty and majesty of God in His holiness. I found it to be very helpful in understanding God's holiness and the practicality of that in life. I highly recommend this book. Read it slowly and meditate on the truth.

This is traditional theology which I wasn't expecting altho I just read so far a smattering of it to get an idea of its content. I read a different religious source that I believe varies a great deal from this book. I probably should give it more of a try, but I'm so much into the other that unless I find it fits within my general views now I'm not too interested.

I read this book a few years back, in a time that I was trying to understand the Lord in His Holiness or His Sovereignty. By understanding these trues about the Lord it helped me understand other doctrines. The Church has painted a picture of the Lord that focuses on one side of His nature. This book helps to bring us to understand all that God is in His holiness. From chapter one pg. 14 "Liberation and judgement are equally aspects of his holiness and together help define his holy character." In the Church today we love the liberation part of God's character, but not so much his judgement side, after all he is a God of love. This book deals with what holy means, "Holy apparently comes from a Semitic root the means "to cut." Hence its basic meaning is "to separate" or " to make distinct" (as in "to cut off")." pg.13 Here are the books chapters.

1. THE MEANING OF HOLY
PART 1: THE HOLINESS OF GOD
2 THE MAJESTY OF GOD
3 GOD THE CREATOR
4 OUR GOD REIGNS
5 THE GOODNESS OF GOD
6 GOD THE JUDGE7 GOD THE WARRIOR
PART II: LIFE BEFORE THE HOLY ONE
8 THE DEVASTATION OF SIN
9 THE NECESSITY OF SACRIFICE
10 THE MAJESTY OF THE CROSS
11 THE FEAR OF THE LORD
12 GLORY
13 WORSHIP
14 REND THE HEAVENS AND COME DOWN

This book helped me understand His holiness and my depravity, I read this book after doing a study on the 10 Commandments and it helped me understand how I needed God to save me, because salvation belongs to the Lord. After reading this book I began to understand the Doctrines of Grace or should I say the need to understand them, in how the Bible presents them. This book was a big part of me understanding His holiness and to understand His full nature not just one side of who He is, the weight of my sin. How sacrifice is a terrible thing, but necessary to forgive my sins. It gave me a deeper understand of Christ's sacrifice for me and the world. I highly recommend this book, after reading this book I would recommend reading The Christian LIfe: A Doctrinal Introduction, if you are looking for a deeper understanding of salvation by grace, read Saved by Grace and Redemption Accomplished and Applied to understand election and free will, with lots of Scripture references Election and Free Will: God's Gracious Choice and Our Responsibility (Explorations in Biblical Theology) also Chosen for Life: The Case for Divine Election For a true understanding of Calvinism from Calvinist, not what people say Calvinism is, with Scripture references The Five Points of Calvinism: Defined, Defended, and Documented Read the Scriptures in context to be sure they mean what the writers are saying that they mean. I did not agree with everything, but at least it was an honest Biblical presentation of Calvinism, not what others say it is.
