ABC Warriors - The Black Hole is a terrific story. It introduces (or re-introduces) us to a group of robot warriors on a mission to save reality, sent to reach the control room on Earth's malfunctioning Black Hole (used for intergalactic travel). This has lots of out-there concepts and imagination brought across in a way that feels immersive and works well. It never feels muddled or messy, it somehow holds all these unique ideas together beautifully.

It's unique in that the writer Mills likes to give his protagonists an amoral untypical portrayal, not the usual heroes. These robots are programmed to get pleasure from killing, and they all struggle with various psychological issues. Hammerstein the leader, Joe Pineapples the cool assassin (on the cover), the treacherous Blackblood, the mysterious and mystical Deadlock, and more. The way they bicker and have a funny interplay is really well done.

And needless to say, the legendary art by Simon Bisley is incredibly well done. It gives so much character to every panel, the action is dynamic, we get a lot of feeling from the faces of these robots, it's epic. Plus I like the little touches and nods to heavy metal music, stuff like references to Dio and Motley Crue etc, fun to see. The other artist SMS who does some of the chapters is also great, he does very detailed stuff especially in the funky architecture.

Anyways, this here is a sci-fi adventure and a bit of a character study that flies by at a brisk pace. It's utterly unique, and pretty terrific.

This is an incredible piece of work with artist Simon Bisley giving everything he has. Is is a piece from earlier in his career and it is impeccable. Pat Mills gives Mr. Bisley a very good world for Simon to build this piece of art.
