Fear Itself and Ghost Rider seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. Johnny Blaze acted totally out of character and Ghost Rider in space is terrible. Just say it out loud, "Ghost Rider in space!" See. The art wasn't great and the book is incredibly forgettable.

Rob Williams (Author), Matthew Clark (Illustrator), Brian Ching (Illustrator), Valero Schiti (Illustrator) & 1 more. This book's worst sin is ignoring the previously established Ghost Rider origin which writer Jason Aaron finally fixed in a strong run just prior to this run. If you are a Ghost Rider aficionado, these inconsistencies will likely annoy you. If you read this run immediately after reading Jason Aaron's run, you will probably want to burn this book and spit on the ashes.

Fear Itself and Ghost Rider seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. Sadly, Rob Williams takes everything cool about the Ghost Rider mythos and turns into a campy, quippy nightmare. Johnny Blaze acted totally out of character and Ghost Rider in space is terrible. Just say it out loud, "Ghost Rider in space!" See. The art wasn't great and the book is incredibly forgettable.

A forgettable run, and worse, it totally ignores the previous run by Jason Aaron which finally fixed Ghost Rider's origin. Not worth reading on its own, and down-right infuriating if you read it directly after Aaron's run. Best left on the garbage heap of Marvel history.

I actually really enjoyed reading through this. It's not an integral part of the Fear Itself event but it was one of the related volumes that I enjoyed reading the most (possibly because it had so little to do with the main storyline). I know the back story of Ghost Rider and all that jazz, but I've probably only read a dozen or so GR comics. I actually found all the characters to be really intriguing and it left me looking forward to where the series might go (which apparently isn't very far). The bulk of the book has to do with Blaze going after the new Ghost Rider and trying to save/stop her. *****Slight Spoiler***** He does keep the world from ending, but as much as I think everyone reading it wanted, he doesn't become GR again and the girl is left to continue on as the GR. The last issue is the beginning of her on her own without Blaze chasing after her and it was enjoyable (and as I said) gave me an optimistic view of where it might be headed and how they might flesh out the character a bit more (she's a little flat).

So if you're reading through the Fear Itself storyline and just want to read the things that really affect the main storyline, you can skip over this one. But if you're reading through it and find the main story so drab and boring that you want to distract yourself with something kind of fun, pick this up to break up the monotony of one more hammer hitting something really hard. I didn't buy it (or any of the Fear Itself stuff, libraries are awesome like that) but if I was going to buy a few tangential Fear Itself things, this would probably be one of the first few I bought.

Call me a traditionalist...but even as a 'fan' of the Ghost Rider character, I find any host other than Johnny Blaze to be...well...uninteresting and poorly constructed. This story sees yet another short lived (the characters' GR run lasted for 8 issues, I think?) new host for the Spirit of Vengeance, a Nicaraguan girl named Alejandra. To put not too fine a point on it, I find her less than engaging and spent most of the story hoping they would find a way to put the focus back on making Blaze Ghost Rider again. Hopefully the poor reflection of sales for this new Rider will encourage Marvel to bring back a more conventional run of the series. This is where Marvel introduced the new Rider, and this was the beginning of the end of the Ghost Rider title. At least for now, any way.
