The Flash was always one of my favorites as a kid.

I read Batman and Superman as well. I can still remember paying 10 cents an issue. In fact wen they in creased the price to 12 cents there was a huge uproar that even made the nightly TV news and all the newspapers. Since I was a paperboy then I well remember this.

When I was in pharmacy school at Butler University I had graduated to Spiderman and the Fantastic Four which I read sometimes during study breaks. I'm buying the Superman and Batman as well (Batman is for my daughter as he's her favorite!).

This cost me $8.98 plus S&H of 3.98 for a total of 12.98 which is not too bad. I do wish they had included 1 or 2 more stories thro. Colors pop and I prefer the paper the use as I don't care for the shinny paper that Marvel is using.

This included the first 6 Barry Allen as the Flash issues. I read them all in one setting and wish I had bought more - I plan on buying volumes 2-4 soon!

Just as an aside - about the uproar when comics increased fro 10 to 12 cents. Since I had a paper route the made me about $20 a week (this was about 1960! - inflation calculators say that would be north of $150 a week today) it didn't matter all that much to me but is sure did to my friends.

I just wish my mom hadn't got rid of all my comics and baseball cards - she burned ALL of them when I went away to college. Oh well - that's the way the cookie crumbles!

I would rate this nice memory lane trip a very high 9.25 to 9.75 - only way it could be better would be either a lower price or IF it have 2 more stories!!
DEAD-SHOT
Showcase #4 was published in 1956. This is the comic that most fans and historians agree ushered in what we call the "Silver Age of Comics." The successful redesign of The Flash brought us new versions of many DC characters, and would go on to influence Marvel's silver age boom of creation, bringing about Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, etc.

Flash Chronicles vol. 1 is the fourth character in the Chronicles line of books. It contains:

Showcase #'s 4, 8, 13 and 14
The Flash #105 and #106

Six issues, as mentioned in the other reviews, is thin for the Chronicles line. The first Batman and Superman volumes were larger at the same price. Unfortunately this trend isn't going away. However, these issues are dense and take longer to read than modern comics, so I think with Amazon's discount you get your money's worth.

The colors really pop off the page thanks to DC's use of soft, non-glossy pages. Glossy comics are a relatively new invention and I appreciate DC deciding to use something closer to what the original issues used.

If you want a little slice of comic book history, or just want to see where Barry Allen became the Flash, this is a great buy. Hopefully DC decides to publish more of The Flash Chronicles.

This really is an awesome product to own! With the crazy, high prices that old comics can be it's very awesome to have the chance to own the very first issues of Barry Allen as The Flash in color, in great condition AND at a very reasonable price! I am very satisfied with this product. However, before purchasing the buyer should realize that comic books were a lot different back in the day then they are now. With great modern works such as The New 52 we really have perfected the art of telling a story through a comic after all these years, but back in the Silver Age (which these comics are considered) superheroes were still a fairly new idea so honestly these comics can come across as pretty cheesy sometimes to the modern reader. But nonetheless they are still very enjoyable to read and I would recommend it!

The Silver Age Comics are hilarious and this one is no different! The Flash is entertaining and this is a great collection!

This nicely bound collection of the initial issues of the Silver Age Flash (with Barry Allen) is a nice way to get in on the ground level for this classic comic book character. And it's unlikely you will find a less-expensive way of reading these stories. And, unlike some other compilations, the pages are not black-and-white reproductions, but are presented in color.

So far so good. I am halfway through this book and it is providing a very good background to the Flash before I move on to other comics of his.
