Photoshop and Photoshop Elements offer both destructive and non-destructive black and white conversion techniques. Destructive methods are ones that can't be re-adjusted afterwards. Once you've made the conversion, the only way to change it is to undo the conversion and start again. Non-destructive methods use Photoshop's adjustment layers. The changes that you make to your photo are stored in a layer, and the original photo remains unchanged underneath

This enables them to reproduce a rich range of tones for a black-and-white image. Printers with only one black ink benefit from having a hint of colour added to the final image. This way, they bolster the black with a some colour. Even if your printer can handle true black-and-white, adding a hint of colour can warm up the final print.

I always use Desaturate to create a Black and White version: Duplicate your colored logo layer.
Instead of a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, you could use the Black and White adjustment layer, considering it's relevance. answered Jun 25 '13 at 2:31. I always use Desaturate to create a Black and White version: Duplicate your colored logo layer. Go to Image Adjustments Desaturate or press Ctrl + Shift + U.
