I enjoyed this book primarily due to the depth and breath of coverage of the subject matter. All too often enterprises view cloud adoption tactically and indeed react to increasing incidents of rogue or shadow IT cloud deployment. I recall three key take aways from the book that were especially meaningful to me: (1) Cloud is not just about cost reduction and efficiency, it can be a source of new revenue streams and/or more revenue from existing revenue streams. (2) Enterprise Architects should be prioritizing cloud as a component of their enterprise architecture strategy. (3) The book provides useful examples of financial models to quantify the value of strategic cloud adoption.

2.5 stars. This is an okay book but it just does not have as much actionable meat within it.

Not a bad book and it provides good insights. It feels like concepts are repeated throughout the chapters and that there needed to be another editing review for sentence structure and continuity.

Pamela Isom and Kerrie Holley have done a superb job of making the subject of cloud computing relevant and understandable to those in either technology or non-technology roles. If you are involved in strategic decision making within your company, or just interested in understanding which critical questions to ask when assessing the competitive advantages of adopting an innovation based cloud strategy, this book is for you. The decision models and practical case studies were immensely relevant to my role in sales. I don't have a background in IT, but I knew it was essential for me to understand which levers to pull to drive efficiency and innovation within my organization and for my customers. This book confirmed that the opportunity around cloud is momentous, and it helped me gain a solid understanding of what an effective decision making cloud strategy looked like.

I really enjoyed how the authors: Ms. Pamela Isom and Mr. Kerrie Holley, provide cloud solutions which fits best within an organization and to determine when these solutions should be implemented. This approach is fundamentally different from circumstances where clients have to adapt their behavior or individual situation to the solution that others recommend. "When you can think about [Enterprise Architecture] and cloud in the same breath with coordinated processes and resources, then you have an [Enterprise Architecture] that can execute at the speed of business." My own experience with such implementations demonstrates the pace is set by internal political ambition within the organization and the direction is largely determined by the subsidies allocated to whichever technology is currently favored by the stakeholders. This book certainly provide the, "rationale behind decisions [are] elaborated throughout for your edification and to stir creativity when it comes to choosing your cloud adoption strategy". Some important drivers for cloud adoption are:

* Ability to consolidate information across disparate systems with complete transparency to the user

* Ability to modernize business systems at a low cost and fast speed of deployment

* Ability to move to a remote desktop services model using the cloud

* Need to support high storage capacity requirements

* Rapid deployment emerges as a consistent business value theme

* Ability to provide IT using self-service capabilities

* Need to support mobile services

* Need to support internal and external collaboration for employees and partners

This book provides the drivers of cloud adoption, apart from the technology implemented, of how clients can define their own approach to fulfilling their goals.
