I'm buying more to give as gifts, and I NEVER give a cookbook, and tend not to buy them now that so many recipes can be found on-line. This one is different though, the stories behind the recipes make you feel honored to own them and try them out. I've never laughed and cried at a cookbook until this one. Beyond the recipes the authors add tips and their experience modifying the recipe-very insightful, and written in a style that reminds me of my favorite female fiction authors. I want to sit and have a cup of coffee with these ladies, and the cookbook makes you feel as if you are.

I swore I would not buy another cookbook or cooking magazine. However, I succumbed to my addiction by buying this book. And I'm glad that I did. I loved the photos, especially the cover. I am still in a sugar coma from too many Halloween parties. As soon as that passes, I will begin baking again, using these recipes. And, while my guests rave about my scrumptious baked dessert, I can give them the background story of the recipe. This is true entertainment value.

Also, what a great idea to have a section to write one's own notes. I am always tinkering with recipes so having this extra space is really handy. I also love reading the side bar tips from the Sugar Mommas.

Well done!

This book is fabulous. First of all, it has an entire chapter on cake of every conceivable flavor; I think I could end my recommendation there and have said enough, but there's a lot to love in this book if you love sweets (who doesn't?) or love to entertain. I just love the concept of this cookbook: it's chock full with stories, tips, gorgeous photos of the sweets, and even an area for notes. (So clever to include the note section--and not at the back but interspersed with recipes where you want room to make notes-- it seems there is always some little adjustment or crib that I use when I re-make recipes I love). The tone is fun and the recipes are easy to follow. I can't wait to work my way through all these recipes. It's a beautifully printed book which looks great on my kitchen shelf. Recommend for sure.

Just finished reading Sugar Sugar from cover to cover. What a joy it was to have access to the lives of families all over the country. This is not just a cookbook, it is a heartfelt journey through the history of the American family. The stories were funny, heartwarming, and poignant. The authors' style is clever and insightful.
Bravo.

You can find a book of dessert recipes at any checkout stand in every grocery store in America, but what you won't find in those books are recipes that have been handed down for generations, along with the stories that go with them. Knowing where a recipe came from, and the people who have made them, makes the resulting confections taste just that much better. All the recipes I have made from this book have been delicious, and the helpful hints not only modernize them but are entertaining as well. Can't wait for the next edition!

I was always admiring my friends who had baking skills. I would admire from afar. I bought this book...baking has never been easier..I have made the truffles (so easy that my kids helped the second time around)...delicious. The princess sugar cookies made great holiday cookies and the blueberry pie..delicious. I will never have to buy the pillsbury premade crust dough again. I am ordering more for gifts. I ran out of the first 5 I purchased!
