The format of Herbs and Spices is wonderful, and the content is - well, let's just say that it's wonderful depending on what you are looking for.

We considered several herb books before selecting this one. There are other that are more detailed. Some that are health-oriented. Still more that focus on gardening. All good, all interesting. What we wanted, however, was a useful, but still survey-level reference with a cooking focus. Herbs and Spices is just that, with a page or two for each entry. Notes on scent and taste are included, as well as references to typical dishes (nothing oddball here). All usable parts of each plant are covered. Notes on purchasing and storing are included with each entry. GOOD pictures of each herb are included as well. In short, a compact reference with an instantly understandable and usable format.

It is ok, but not what I was looking for. I was looking for more of a how spices and herbs blend for the book to explain what spices complement each other and which combinations to avoid. I was also looking for advice of good substitutes if you can't find the actual spice or herb. The organization of the book isn't well explained either, I cannot figure out what the page colors mean or if they mean anything at all. The book is very informative and I did gain a lot of knowledge but I do not keep it in the kitchen as a reference.

So pleased with this book. Nice think colorful pages! Will wear well. So full of information. I just love to sit and read it like a novel, and will be good reference through the years!

I just received this book and I'm impressed beyond my expectations. This is not only a beautifully photographed book, but it's well organized, thoughtfully put together and extremely well researched. I can't imagine ever needing to buy another book on herbs and spices.

I don't write very many reviews, but I had to on this one because I was sooooo happy to have purchased it for my small cookbook library.

Buy this book!!!!! You won't be sorry.

I have used this book so many times. It is better than going on the computer to research herbs and plants. I absolutely love all the information, pictures, suggestions for growing and storing. I would recommend this book for all cooks, gardeners and anyone who has a passion for great food. It would also make a great gift for any of your friends. Thorough description of many herbs and spices, and their many uses, and even grow information for those lucky enough to have the time, and the place to grow their own. A nice buy for those searching for applicable uses of different spices and herbs for culinary applications. Nice photos are a plus. 4 Stars.

It covers each of the herbs & spices, the types of food they are used with, the flavors added, & most importantly the methods of preparation. This is the ultimate reference for all levels of cooking experience! The price is pefect, the shipping is prompt, & enjoyment starts immediately!!
I bought this book for my aunt as a Xmas gift. Now that I have seen it, I will be buying one for myself! It has everything laid out very simply and logically. I love that each herb has a section on how to it and what herbs/spices they pair with. Bright colors and beautiful pictures of each item. Very well done!
