I was severely disappointed in this book. While there were a few money saving and interesting suggestions within the first few chapters of the book, the rest left much to be desired. Since it was $3.00 meals, I assumed the entire book would be about doable lunch ideas for a full meal [entree, sides, maybe a dessert] would be included, not just a bunch of random recipes. Added to the fact that it's $3.00 per servings - not per meal as stated even in the description of the book - I'm not seeing the frugality of this. If I'm making at least two of her recipes plus a dessert, then I'm potentially looking at a $9.00 lunch for just me! Considering a good deal of the recipes are made for 4+ servings, some of which can't be reduced to smaller amounts, one single recipe may cost at least $12.00 to make - not very penny-pinching in my book. Her suggested meal pairings at the end are hilarious - while I'm sure the pairings are excellent, each contain between 4-6 recipes, all serving at least four people. At the high end for four, you're looking at $72 to feed FOUR people. I could easily go out and buy something for eight people for less than that.

I did like the beginning section with tips and tidbits on how to save, which is why I gave the book 2 out of 5 instead of 1 out of 5, but wouldn't recommend this book for anyone seriously looking at saving money using her suggested recipes. You're better off gleaming ideas from her book after you've checked it out for free at the library than letting it take up valuable space in your home.
Consider yourself blessed if you dislike salt. Otherwise, this book offers an excellent variety of company-quality food, popular ethnic-style dishes included. They're good enough to jazz up with salt, if so desired. HOWEVER, the $3.00 claim is totally untrue. This is expensive food, and the dessert recipes are unimpressive. I don't like any of them. In general, what you get is a gourmet-type cookbook, with pricey herbs and spices used as substitutes for salt.
