How are we to eat? That is a question each of us has to deal with every day. And its answer affects both personal and planetary health. In the spirit of The Great Law of the Six Nations of the Iroquois people we have worked to provide a book which offers guidance to those who love this planet. We have endeavored to provide a means of cooking and eating that will both benefit not only ourselves but the next seven generations, on this fragile planet. In the pages that follow, we offer guidance for people interested in developing a dietary pattern that is sustainable in all sense of the word. This is really a handbook for learning and practicing a practical, economical, healthful, and environmentally sustainable way of eating. Although the science and practice of ecology is relatively new to the West, it has had a long and illustrious history in many traditional cultures around the world, particularly in Chinese culture. In fact, one of the pillars of Chinese culture, Taoism, can be considered a natural, ecological science par excellence. Taoist teachings form the foundation of Chinese science and medicine. For over 5000 years, the mind of the Chinese scientist has been directed toward realizing harmony with Nature in order to magnify human health and potential. Consequently, this cookbook is spiced with references to traditional Chinese medicine. Unlike most other cookbooks, 'The Nourishment for Life Cookbook,' provides information, tools and techniques to not only enable you eat an ecological, sustainable diet, but also to liberate you from dependence upon this or any other cookbook.
