TOI 700 d, however, is the outermost of the three and the only planet in the habitable zone of the system. It is 20 percent larger than the Earth, has an orbit of 37 days, and absorbs 86 percent of the energy that the Earth receives from the Sun. NASA believes that the planets are all tidally locked, which means they rotate once per orbit meaning one side of the surface is in constant sunlight.

Three-quarters of the planet’s surface covered by ice or oceans, and the sky is filled with clouds. Water vapor is a powerful greenhouse gas, and it is a major driver of the Earth’s weather and climate as it travels around the globe, transporting heat with it. For human needs, the amount of freshwater for drinking and agriculture is particularly important. Freshwater exists in lakes, rivers, groundwater, and frozen as snow and ice. Estimates of groundwater are particularly difficult to make, and they vary widely.
