Among those I learnt was The Ant and The Grasshopper, which is devised to bring home to the young the useful lesson that in an imperfect world industry is rewarded and giddiness punished. In this admirable fable (I apologize for telling something which everyone is politely, but inexactly, supposed to know) the ant spends a laborious summer gathering its winter store, while the grasshopper sits on a blade of grass singing to the sun. Winter comes and the ant is comfortably provided for, but the grasshopper has an empty larder: he goes to the ant and begs for a little food

A grasshopper who is very hungry sees him and says, Give me a few grains of corn; I am dying of hunger. The writer said that he would tell us the story of the ant and the grasshopper. It was a cold winter’s day and an ant was bringing out some grains of corn that he gathered in the summer as he wanted to dry them. A grasshopper that was very hungry saw the ant and told him to give her a few grains of corn because she was dying of hunger. But the ant asked the grasshopper what she had done in the summer and if she had not stored up any corn.

The Ant and the Grasshopper, alternatively titled The Grasshopper and the Ant (or Ants), is one of Aesop's Fables, numbered 373 in the Perry Index. The fable describes how a hungry grasshopper begs for food from an ant when winter comes and is refused. The situation sums up moral lessons about the virtues of hard work and planning for the future. Even in Classical times, however, the advice was mistrusted and an alternative story represented the ant's industry as mean and self-serving

Are you an ant or a grasshopper? In other words, do you tend to finish all your work, and then relax, or do you relax first and procrastinate about work? Most of us, in fact, are somewhere in between. However, different types of personalities behave differently, when presented with a situation where there is an option of working and saving for future, and leading a carefree life. Most artists and creative people are usually categorized as the latter type.
