Each of the three sections-Basic Components, Technology, and Applications-offers a stand-alone primer on a key area of the field. Together, they give engineers, scientists, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates a comprehensive resource on fiber optic sensors.
Topics addressed include acoustic and pressure sensors; fiber optic gyros; electric and magnetic field sensors . Conference: The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) meeting, Boston, MA (United States), 8-11 Sep 1992; Related Information: SPIE Proceedings.

The possibility of understanding and monitor the distributed behavior of extensive stretches of critical structures it's an enormous advantage that distributed fiber optic sensing provides to SHM systems.

Redirected from Fiber optic sensor). A fiber-optic sensor is a sensor that uses optical fiber either as the sensing element ("intrinsic sensors"), or as a means of relaying signals from a remote sensor to the electronics that process the signals ("extrinsic sensors"). Fibers have many uses in remote sensing
A fiber-optic interferometric sensor has been developed which consists of a seismic mass of 520 gm supported by two rubber mandrels, each wound with a single layer of single-mode optical fiber . m long. One end of each fiber is cleaved to enhance reflection. The other ends are interconnected via a fiber-to-fiber 3-dB coupler, forming a Michelson interferometer.
