Although the book structure is odd with the authors first describing the operational use and then the individual types the content definitely does not disappoint with detailed coverage of all R-types operational or not. Even unbuilt projects (that look as if they came out of a Jules Verne novel) are included.

A very nice copy indeed

The photographs and illustrations have been completely revised, with many entirely new views and improved prints of those previously published, together with a considerable number of minor amendments and additions to the text. The book is a complete study of the development and service history of the R-Planes, full details and career of every aeroplane built, as well as information on uncompleted projects. A very nice copy indeed. The German Giants: The German R-Planes 1914-1918 by G. Haddow and Peter M. Published by Putnam, 1988.

This is one of the rare instances that the Amazon rating system is inadequate in assessing the merits of a book.
Documenting the German effort to field large multi-engined combat aircraft , this seminal work by Haddow and Grosz,
originally published in 1962 and going through two revised editions is still the best title on the subject.
Although the book structure is odd with the authors first describing the operational use and then the individual types
the content definitely does not disappoint with detailed coverage of all R-types operational or not.
Even unbuilt projects (that look as if they came out of a Jules Verne novel) are included.
Note that this is one of the few Putnam titles originally published in large format which means
that the numerous photographs and three views are reproduced big enough for their full impact to get across.

This one of the rare books on this fascinating subject. It is also the only book you will ever need. Never have I seen so many
pictures and stories about this little known subject. It will always have a place of honor in my library.
